Chiang Mai Marathon”
My Wife wanted to run in the 2009 Chiang Mai Marathon or Mini Marathon so we were looking for a hotel near to the start and the Amora Tapae Hotel was ideal. The hotel was easy to find and the route to the car park well signed. After parking our car we made our way to the reception where we were greeted by friendly and very professional staff who checked us in with the minimum of fuss. After unpacking we made our way to the hotel lobby and were given directions to the start of the marathon and what else to see in Chiang Mai while we were staying there. We will be returning to this hotel in January 2010 so that we can see a bit more of Chiang Mai.

Happy and Pleasent Stay”
Amora Tapae Hotel was one of the pleasant surprises during Loy Krathong (Yee Peng) in Chiang Mai, busy and full, but had a great front desk staff and exceeded service in all aspects. Close to restaurants at the Thapae Gate to the Night Bazaar and the Ping River attractions, most within walking distance. Buffet Breakfast was excellent with over 10 hot dishes, many different types of bread, fresh, pastries, good coffee, fruits, and all the normal buffet items. Rooms and all were above expectations, clean comfortable, good in all aspects. Highly recommended

Ideal location for festivities in Chiang Mai”
safe car parking is a great feature in chiang mai where parking around the central moat can be a nightmare. the reception area would grace a much more expensive hotel. our agoda rate was excellent value. we needed to be near tha phae road for the songkran thai new year festivities - we only had to walk less than 5 minutes to get there. plentiful thai/international restaurants (including the cheap and excellent thai food place 'aroon rai') as well as many, many bars nearby. i suspect that extras like breakfast and dinner are best bought elsewhere (certainly one can eat very well and cheaply in chiang mai). the 'amora' is certainly a very good choice for a short break.

Amora - Great Value for Money, Perfect Location.”
My stay @ Amora was very good. I like the location and the value of Money for a 4 Star Hotel. Great friendly staff throughout our stay. The Hotel is situated near Tapae Gate and it is the best location, not too far from the gate for the Night Market, and not too close to get involved with the traffic jam during the Market. I would recommend Amora for stay in Chiang Mai and Amora is my first pick to book for my next Chiang Mai trip.

Great location and service but too many mozzies”
we stayed at amora tapae hotel for 5 nights and we experienced pleasant time there. the best thing i can pick is the location of the hotel. very close to every where so we did not need to take tuk tuk even once. breakfast was excellent. bed was comfy. people were very helpful. but they didn't seem to care about mosquitoes. mosquitoes were flying every where in the hotel, especially dinning area. one more thing we disappointed was a bottle of water price in the room. as there was no sign on the bottles, we drank the water bottle from the fridge and we had to pay 400 thb for the water we drank when we checked out ( per bottle. you can buy itfrom a store for 7 thb). so be careful.... except that it was good.

Nice Centrally Located Hotel”
The location is convenient to both the Old City inside the moat and the tourist areas around Tha Phae Gate, Loi Kroh and the Night Bazaar. The hotel exterior and the lobby are very nice and classier than the price would suggest. The room had a bath tub, which you don't always find in this part of the world, and also had a very large flat-screen TV. It was not a luxurious room like you might find in a 5-star hotel, but it was still one of the nicest I've seen in Chiang Mai in this price range.

Will keep going back here...”
I have been using Amora Tapae for the last two years and will be using it again in the future. The staff at the front desk could be a little more friendlier though but all in all, this hotel exceeds all expectations. I was there for the Chiang Mai Marathon and due to the hotel location it worked out perfectly for me. It is very close to both the food markets and the night markets. The buffet breakfast is still the best I have had in Thailand.

Great location, very comfortable - will stay again”
From the moment I walked in, Amora Tapae made me feel welcome with the friendly, attentive service. Reception staff spoke some English, enough to do the essentials. The hotel is a bit run-down in places (eg stains on the hallway carpets on my floor) but my room was very comfortable and clean, with TV (and movie channels in English) and a great shower (excellent water pressure). The spa, near the pool, was excellent - had a great massage there. The swimming pool was clean, but unlit at night - would have been nice to look onto a lit pool after dark. And once when I went down there I couldn't find the pool attendant to get a pool towel (had to return to my room and use a bath towel). Free wifi in the room, even though it wasn't mentioned in the booking - had some problems getting online at times, but when connected it was fast. I didn't have breakfast at the hotel and there's no need to as there are really great cafes (with great coffee) a short walk away, just across the moat. Overall, a good hotel in a great location offering a very comfortable stay.

Beautiful view from my room”
I had the most beautiful view from my room at Amora Tapae Hotel, Chiangmai. It was also front facing the moat and with walking distance to almost anywhere. Bell-boys and receptionists were polite. Room was comfortable, spacious and clean . Tea-coffee making available in room with 2 bottles of drinking water daily provided. Very near to Tapae Gate and the Sunday Walking Street Market. Practically the whole surrounding area are full of restaurants and bars and massage outlets.

Nice, comfortable and value for money stay”
We stayed at Amora Tapae Hotel for 3 nights and enjoyed our time there thoroughly. The location of the hotel is super close to the old town and it is within walking distance to any of the major sites inside the old town, including the Sunday night market. The breakfast has lots of varieties and is really tasty. Considering the price we paid for, USD45/night, it is beyond our expectation and I would recommend it to everyone as a good and value for money choice.

Convient location”
This was my second stay at this hotel and I like it because it conveniently located right on the east side of the moat, near the Tapae Gate. This is the area where I prefer to stay in Chiang Mai. It is a large, older hotel with 12 floors, so it does not have the cozy charm of a small boutique hotel. Rooms have sweeping views of the city. The windows in my room, however, were covered with fingerprints of past guests. It was the same when I stayed here 2 years ago. Apart from the windows, the room and public areas are well maintained and clean. The air-con was noisy. Breakfast is adequate with choices for all tastes. The pool is in the shade most of the day. I will probably stay here again when I return to Chiang Mai.

Very nice hotel in a great location”
We really enjoyed our time in Chiang Mai and at the Amora Hotel. The services were nice and the rooms were very well furnished. The pool was good, and the staff was friendly and helpful. There is a tour contact in the lobby, and she was also very helpful with suggestions. There are money exchange places nearby as well as lots of food and shopping. The hotel is on the East side of the Old City, and was in a great location. We walked a lot of places, including nearby laundry and the night market. I would purchase breakfast as part of the hotel price, as it was more expensive to just buy it at the hotel. Overall, we had a GREAT stay!

A nice hotel with excellent location”
this was a lovely hotel to stay for a few nights in chiang mai. it was clean and modern with comfortable beds and linens. the breakfast buffet was lovely and the hours were convenient as well. unfortunately it lacked much "personality" and we felt as though we could have been in any city in the world. if you're looking for a nice, clean stay with an excellent location (right next to the tapae gates directly across from the canal of the old city) this is a great deal. if you are looking for a traditional feeling thai hotel you will probably want to look elsewhere. i would stay here again.

Charming hotel with very polite and smiling staff”
we spent 8 days at amora and this is an excellent place to stay and enjoy everything chiang mai has to offer!the staff is great, our bags were picked up as soon as we arrived followed by a full explanation of the facilities provided by the hotel by the bell staff. i can only recommend this hotel in chiang mai and i will definitely go back there when i'll have the opportunity to go back to northern thailand.

clean rooms good check-in friendly staff”
Amora Tapae was in avery good location not far from the night market. The room was ready even though we arrived a bit early. The staff was very friendly and helped with our luggage. The hotel including our room was very clean. The room was a bit dim and could have used more lights. The shower was good with plenty of hot water. We found it a good place to stay.

Very hefty charge for internet use”
This hotel is not suitable for the business or independent traveller in so far as it is one of the very few hotels - of this quality - that continues to charge for internet usage. To add insult to injury the charges are very steep and doing ones work or research can either be an annoying significant extra expense or an irritating annoyance if one chooses to go and work somewhere else offering free wi-fi. This serious deficiency is a great shame because everything else that one can say about this hotel has to be very, very positive. The rooms are extremely comfortable and well appointed, the breakfast is more than adequate and the staff are extremely efficient, polite and friendly. The hotel also has one of the best locations in Chiang Mai - the moat and access to the old city are just across the road. Several previous reviewers also mention Darets - a small nearby restaurant - and recommend it. I endorse their comments - the food is good and wholesome and the beer must be the cheapest anywhere in Thailand. I ate here everyday during my stay as this is where I chose to do my internet work (free wi-fi with excellent connectivity)!

Decent standard hotel in central location”
i am a long term resident in chiang mai. during the recent floods it was very difficult to get to my condo so i decided to book a hotel for one night and try to get to my condo the next morning. i chose the amora tapae hotel because it is centrally located overlooking the moat and close to tapae gate. the room was a little small but clean and generally adequate for a one night stay. for a longer stay i would want to book a larger room. no balcony (one of my pet hates because i smoke but hate to smoke in the room). breakfast was ok with a decent choice.

Comfortable as usual in Amora”
My stay was pleasant as usual as this is the third time in three years I am staying here. The only bad thing I can say is the lack of friendly attitude being displayed by two ladies at reception during check in and check out. Other than that, this hotel is well worth the money spent as it is close to the Saturday Night Market and only a 10minute walk from the Night Bazaar. There are various tour companies outside the hotel as well as great massage places. I would also recommend Amora Spa although its prices can be a bit steep. Will be back here If I am back in Chiang Mai.

Clean, comfortable and good value for money”
The Amora Tapae is a clean, comfortable and fairly modern hotel, well located for sights, shopping and eating. Furnishings are modest but tasteful. Bedrooms are well-sized with comfortable beds and a reasonable selection of TV channels. A bonus is tea and coffee-making facilities in the room. However, the Amora has yet to catch on to the attraction of free Wi-Fi. There is a good swimming pool, clean and well-maintained, though on the small size. A plus is that it is not well used and you can enjoy plenty of tranquillity if that is your thing. But the downside is that the pool tends to be in the shade for long periods of the day. Might get in the way of deep suntans. Overall, the Amora is good value for money and I would not hesitate in recommending it for most types of travellers.
