Good Comfort, Good Location, Good Value”
We stayed for two nights early June and were very impressed. We needed to be close to the airport - but with easy access to shopping areas and Hotel 81 Sakura met our needs. We got a very good price and were impressed wtih what we go for the money. It reminded us very much of an average Japanese business hotel - it was clean , everything worked, the rooms were quiet, and the staff efficient and pleasant. The most pleasant surprise of our stay was the many excellent and cheap Vietnamese (mainly but not only) eateries withing easy walking distance. Good breakfast option eateries and hawker venues close by as well. Bus stop less than 5 mins walk away and transfer to MRT only another 5 to 10 minutes (about 30 minutes walk). This was the first time we had stayed away from the Orchard Rd and China Town areas and were pleased we did and got to enjoy another apsect of Singapore. If you want a good clean no fuss hotel close to great food and at a price that si easy on the budget - this place we can recommend.

Basic hotel, ideal for a short stay”
The Hotel 81 Sakura is located not too far from the airport. It costs around $16 to go there from the airport. If you prefer the subway, just stop at the Paya Lebar stop (green line) and walk for about 10 minutes. The hotel is ok for the price. Our room was clean, but very small. It had a TV with DVD player and a fast Internet connection (free of charge).

Clean and Affordable Budget Hotel”
I would recommend Hotel 81 Sakura to my friends who intend to visit Singapore. Although the room is quiet small, but it was clean and well-maintained. The hotel staffs are welcoming and friendly. There are also interesting places to go to like bars during night time and a lot of food court nearby.

budget hotel with clean room”
This hotel 81 sakura is better than other hotel 81 around joo chiat area , although it is in the mid way of joo chiat road, but it is easy to get a taxi to airport within 20mins. There are many eateries along the road and also a 24 hr supermarket in katong mall. You can also walk to the seaside and visit the eastside largest shopping mall that have many eateries inside. You can also rent a bicycle in east coast park. in addition, Bus number 33 is recommend nearby as it can bring you to bugis and china town area. In the midway of this route , you can also visit old airport road food halls that have many good local food stall although there are no air-cond.

Lovely hotel and service with a smile”
Room is lovely. Valued for the money paid. Walking distance to eating areas like Geylang Serai market and Joo Chiat Complex. Also a walking distance to the new shopping center, 112 Katong. Overall, the stay at Hotel 81 Sakura was very pleasant.

Very good”
Hotel 81 Sakura is a good hotel, right in the heart of culture-rich Joo Chiat Road. Everything is accessible here - public transport, grocery store, food stalls, and restaurants. The hotel is quite old but still in good condition. No bed bugs experience, has tv with cable, complimentary coffee, and free toothbrush and toothpaste. The bathroom has tub (but you need to clean it again before using the tub just to be sure). At first, there’s hot and cold water but eventually it stopped working. Be ready to take cold shower on a cold night. Apart from that, all other hotel facilities are working - elevator, tv and lights. Also, the staff are friendly and accommodating!

Quiet location but small rooms”
I quite liked my stay at the hotel 81 Sakura- it was quiet and I was able to sleep in without too much disruption. The rooms were very clean and well stocked with supplies you might need. The beds were quite hard though which made sleeping uncomfortable at times. The rooms are very small, but that didn't bother me too much. I didn't care for how cold the rooms were kept and how muggy, hot the bathroom was. Switching between the two was odd. But I did love the location of the hotel, near to many cheaper restaurants and about 10-15 mins walk to the paya lebar mrt station. It's far from the city center but is a great location for the first day or two acclimating to a new country.

I ate till I dropped.”
singapore hotels have new york prices these days, so if you are budget concious and could not care for malls, then hotel 81 sakura is for you. clean, functional with ac and tv, it's best selling point is it's location. joo chiat road and the adjacent katong area was able to preserved their heritage, the shophouses there give the new generations and toursts a historical view of how singapore once was. for the foodies, all of the best local delights can be found here.

Clean and crisp stay in busy area of Singapore”
Throughout my usually short business stays in Singapore the Hotel 81 Sakura offers the appropriate efficient hospitality. The rooms, although relatively small, are clean and properly organized. The reception staff is friendly and always willing to assist in calling a taxi or helping out with luggage. All-in-all a pleasant hotel for a very competitive price. I would recommend the Hotel 81 Sakura on Joo Chiat Road to any low budget, short stay traveller.

How to beat New York prices”
if you want to get away from orchard road prices, then this hotel is not only functional, but situated in a real singaorean atmsophere with great eateries. joo chiat, katong, east coast road, geyland serai are where you can find the singapore of yesterday. beware that it is a shoebox with little room for luggage and the street has a soft red -light scene in the evenings. however, it is not outrageous and adds to the intoxicating allure of joo chiat rd & singapore.

There is a quiet end and a noisy end of the Joo Ch”
Hotel Sakura rooms are fine for a solo traveler. Nice bed. Air con, TV and internet all work. The shower makes the bathroom floor wet but that is what the bath mat is for. Room came equipped with a fridge and the hair dryer, kettle, bottled water and 3 in 1 tea and coffee were all in the room and replaced every day which is more than can be said for some hotels who advertise these facilities. I would stay here again. Calling Geylang red light is to say that St Kilda is also a red light district. I felt safe walking at all hours of the night from the MRT to Hotel Sakura. No Problems .

grea location and clean”
My husband and I enjoy our 2 nights stay in this hotel. The price was perfectly right for the location and facilities. Although the room is small but cosy, clean and neat. Air condition need to be service. Walking distance to the food alley and also shopping centre. Bus is also convenient to chinatown. We will definately recommend our friends from Australia to stay here whenever they visit Singapore.

ain't that bad”
the hotel is located n joo chiat, when we went there the hotel is under maintenance (painting the exterior) so it took us awhile to find this hotel, also in joo chiat there's like 3 hotel 81! other than that this hotel isn't really that bad. the people are friendly and the location is so ideal, you can literally go anywhere from this area. also, there's a lot of restaurant in the area which i think is awesome.

Lovely stay at HOtel 81 Sakura in Singapore! Cheap rates and the area was buzzing @ night due the the location of the hotel! Nice Japanese theme with the hotel although the rooms were very small but it was very neatly presented. Everything was clean and had a great smell to it when I checked in.

Budget hotel”
Budget hotel in the east side of Singapore. Very clean and has a good ambiance. Plenty of Chinese restaurants and bars. Bus stop is at walking distance. Dakota MRT (yellow line) is just 10-15 min by bus. Overall a good place to spend couple of nights.

Solid Hotel - Gets The Basics Right”
I stayed at Hotel 81 Sakura for 4 nights in June 2010. Hotel room was neat and clean. Staff were very helpful and gave me directions, maps and help with public transport. The room is well equipped with fridge and kettle, tv etc. This hotel does all the basics well and adds a few nice touches. The room is cleaned and made up to a good standard every day. Tea and coffee are provided and replaced on a daily basis. Whilst I was there the TV had world cup football matches on for free (this is pay per view in Singapore). For the price, this is a very solid hotel and compares well to other places I have stayed in same price range in Singapore. Main negative point is the location. Whilst the hotel is not (this is a few km's away in Geylang), it is on the same street as many KTV Bars. Being Singapore the area is completely safe but it is not what I would call family friendly. I scored food & dining as 1 as I don't think they offer any.

A quiet getaway in a vibrant area in Singapore.”
Stayed for 2 nights during a transit, I chose Joo Chiat area because it's in between old town and new city, not too hectic like Orchard area. I used to live in Singapore for almost 3 years, working in the middle of business district so I've know the city quite well. I personally don't go to nightlife places but made the most out of this 2 days spending time on food tasting around Joo Chiat, Katong, and East Coast!

Decent hotel w/ value for money.”
hotel sakura is a great place to stay if you'd like to stay within budget. located approx 20mins from the airport it had what we needed -- a clean room with a/c,hot and cold shower, and wifi. although the hotel might be a bit far from the city, there is no problem going around singapore via taxi or mrt. food stalls abound the hotel area as well so getting a meal is not a problem. all in all, our experience in hotel sakura would be 8/10.
