ok, i spent hours trying to find a decent budget hotel in singapore. i seriously take reviews to heart & this time it paid off. after digesting the sticker shock off sg, i just wanted a decent, clean hotel for a budget price. we were pleasantly surprised & this hotel is great. we've backpacked everywhere & while we try to stay a good, decent hotels, this hotel exceeded the expectations. the rooms were spacious, clean. the bathroom had a bathtub & shower. service was great. wifi good ($3 a day). cafe has a ''set lunch'' for $8.00 (although we were being tourists, we were out & about so we didn't eat) however, free breakfast was good. there's also other places to eat around the corner...pizza, subway, pub, 7-11, fish & chips, etc. good choices! location - easy to buses or taxis were cheap. from hotel to chinatown, about 20 min. was $6. after touring sg i saw many of the hotels i looked at online & was thrilled with our choice. book this hotel as you won't be sorry. oh, & they've got a pool too. i'd stay here again!

We will be staying here if the price is the same next time. To get a place for four in Singapore is not very easy, and with pool and convenience like the VIP hotel has, near impossible. This is a nice place. Negatives: Room smelled a little musty, but did not affect my daughter's allergies, and I stopped noticing within minutes. Internet is quite slow, and I had to do most of my business work in the outdoor dining area, which was actually very comfortable. Even has fans. You need to take a taxi from the MRT, $5 Singapore. They provide a free shuttle back again, which was very convenient and easy to use. TV stations were a little wanting, but if you like soccer they are fine! Positives: Just about everything else! Pool setting is nice, rooms are very neat and clean, bathrooms are top quality, Staff were super nice and helpful, Breakfast was great, close to a strip of restaurants, and free shuttle away from the MRT and the rest of Singapore. The outside of the hotel looks a little run down, the inside is where they have put all their money, and it looks nice and was great for my family.

Short, last minute stay”

We made a reservation at the VIP Hotel Singapore at the last minute on a very busy holiday weekend. A small and friendly hotel with spotless rooms (we had a family room for 4 people), refreshing pool, friendly staff and plentiful breakfast (not a huge amount of variety, but plenty of it!) It was quite a way from the main attractions of Singapore, but a good price in comparison with other hotels. The closest MRT station is Newton, approximately a 10-15 min walk from the hotel just off Bukit TImah Road, to the left as you come out of the station - follow the flow of traffic. Don't make the mistake we did and walk the wrong way out of the station, it took us about 40 minutes - we got confused due to building work!

Great place to stay if you want a big room ”

we love the vip hotel, its in a very quiet residential area but close to orchard ! the rooms are big for the price, there is plenty of room for shopping, luggage, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was big and clean. the tv is a big flatscreen, wifi internet worked well but has a per day fee. the hotel restaurant is very relaxed and the food was nice. its a bit far to walk to orchard road from this hotel but only a few minutes in a taxi, they are easy to find on the main road behind the vip hotel. there is a pizza restaurant, 711, english pub, wine bar and some more restaurants just 5 minutes walk around the corner. if you are looking to stay somewhere near orchard, this hotel is great, excellent value compared to other hotels in singapore.

Wonderful Experience”

The VIP is a wonderful older boutique hotel. It was fairly quiet and the staff was very helpful. The breakfast was nothing fancy but it was good food. The pool is rather deep (3.5M) at the deep end and there really is not an area in the pool for small children unless they have flotation devices on. We used the shuttle once and it was a good experience to go to the nearest MRT station (Newton). After that though, we just walked there (about 800M). There are two bus stations, one close on our side of Bukit Temah (next to the building with a 7-11 and a few restaurants) and one on the other side of Bukit Temah (400&600M, respectively). The neighborhood is very peaceful because it is an expensive part of Singapore. And I have already booked another visit there in a couple of months so know that I enjoyed my time there very much. :) Oh, and be sure to bring outlet adapter/converters with you if you have a lot of electronics. There was only one non-Singaporean outlet in the room.

Nice renovated room!”

We had a good stay the room was spacious, we booked the super deluxe room through Agoda and the room has been renovated so it looked so much better than the photo on Agoda. VIP hotel needs to update their room photos. One thing that needs improvement in the rooms was there was no facial tissues provided, the shower glass partition was too short so water drips everywhere on the floor(should just use shower curtains), the hair dryer didn't work, housekeeping didn't change our bedsheets daily(we stayed there for 7 days), people are allowed to smoke outside but we can still smell the cigarettes smoke. Could use more sound proofing for we can hear people talking next door. Provide locking mechanism for the connecting room door for there was just a flimsy lock that can be accidently opened and the person from the other room can enter your room(not safe at all). Provide an electronic bell for each room. The worst part is the cafe staff, I asked for a thermos of ice daily for the weather is really hot and they were not enthusiastic about giving me the ice(as if they own the ice, they are the waiter not the owner) but the Singaporean uncle cook was excellent he was friendly and very accomodating.

An excellent value hotel, only minutes from Orchard Road.”

I've been going to Singapore for many years, as a traveler and for work assignments, and I personally feel that the VIP is one of the best accommodation options in town. It is very well priced (most rooms are under the SGD 200 mark) compared with the bigger hotels around the Orchard area, the rooms are large and spacious, and it's in a quiet residential area, just minutes from downtown. The management have recently upgraded the restaurant area so it is now enclosed and providing air-conditioned comfort while enjoying your breakfast or lunch. The restaurant now also has cold Asahi beer on tap for your sun-downers next to the pool. The VIP, a great place to stay in the Lion City.

Grand Old Lady”

This was our second time staying at the VIP Hotel. The first time was with our son. This time it was just my fiancee and me. The location, cleanliness, and facilities are very good but not excellent. It is a bit of a walk to the bus stop or the Newton MRT but even for a 66 year old with a bad hip it is doable. ;) The room we were in did not have an electrical outlet that was wired for international usage (only Singapore) but I had brought along a converter (not adapter). Our previous room had one outlet that had been converted but this room had not had that renovation done to it. I mentioned it to the front desk so the next guest should have better luck. But in this day and age, one outlet is seldom enough. As far as the cleanliness, the room and facilities are clean but a bit worn around the edges, especially the bathroom. This hotel must have been something in its prime but like many of us, that time has come and gone. :) We will stay here again and I look forward to it.

Comfortable and pleasant stay”

Thank you VIP Hotel for making our first visit comfortable and memorable. I liked that the hotel was situated at a more quiet part of the city surrounded by trees and near to Newton MRT. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, quiet and spacious. Some facilities were obviously old but that was ok. The breakfast was simple but delicious. We were also able to avail of free shuttle services from the hotel to Orchard Street. I would definitely book this hotel on our next trip to Singapore.

VIP Hotel”

I spent 3 nights and 4 days in Singapore and felt that the VIP hotel Balmoral is a nice place to stay. The VIP Hotel Balmoral is near to public transportation, and also has enough facility such as swimming pool, computer for guest, and restaurant. The staffs are very helpful when i asked some information regarding the singapore city especially for the places that tourist should come. I stayed with my family (wife and 2 children). Their response are very positive in terms of room condition and also hotel facility. We hope someday we will again at this hotel when visiting Singapore. I also recommend this hotel to my relatives and friends if they visit singapore in the future. Thanks VIP Balmorl.

Exceptional”

The VIP Hotel was as expected for the amount paid. It is not new, and the price reflects that, but it is in a lovely leafy suburb, with a good range of quality eateries around the corner. The Newton MRT station is 5-10 minute walk, and next to that the Newton Food Centre. We chose this area of the city, as the places we wanted to visit were within 2-3 MRT stops. The room was perfectly clean, although someone had previously been smoking in it, and this lingered. The bathroom had been renovated, but the bedroom floor coverings original. Bed was comfortable, and air con worked well. The included breakfast, although a small range covered all tastes, and the staff friendly and helpful. A nice peaceful outlook on to the pool to start the day. Would stay there again.

This was our first trip to Singapore and had no idea where to stay. After reading several reviews, decided to stay at the VIP. When we first arrived, we were a bit concerned that the hotel was perhaps too far from the major sites. We were impressed by the size and cleanliness of the rooms. Although basic, the rooms are comfortable after a long day of sightseeing and shopping. The pool was well maintained although pools towels might have been nice. The on-site resturant served a basic brakfast buffet which was a good start to the day. Staff were friendly and helpful. As it turned out the location was very good for us. The hotel was just a short taxi ride from Orchard Street and many other sites. We liked the fact that the hotel was nestled in amoung the highrises in the residential neighbour which was quiet.

Stayed in Vip hotel during new year eve ”

Booked the place during new year year eve - It was a pleasant stay overall with value for money. Room was cozy , clean and big in the leafy area of bukit Timah. Nearby to good places to eat such as Newton Circus and the Newton metro station both walking distance. Botanical gardens Is also nearby. Recommend for people who want to be nearby to the city but not in it :) recommended.

We've just spent a few days in Singapore and stayed at the VIP Hotel. It was small and excellent. The staff were brilliant and very helpful. The room was clean and spacious with sufficient facilities (tea, coffee, water etc), and the location was quiet and in a pretty area. first time I was at VIP Hotel 3 month ago for some nights. A small/sweet hotel and very nice/calm location in the center of Singapore. MRT and bus in walk minutes distance. small shops and little restaurants (western) in walk min. to the Hotel too. Hotel have a beautiful swimming pool and cafe bar were you can also eat your dinner and lunch. 24 hours reception. I will recommend the hotel to all people and will come back next time again. I enjoined my stay at the VIP hotel.

Great value for money ”

The VIP is a well priced hotel set amongst surrounding apartment buildings. The pool is great - the deepest we've come across at a hotel which ensures it's lovely and cool at the end of a hot Singapore day sightseeing. It's well located about 10 mins walk from Newton hawker food centre and Newton MRT station. The complimentary breakfast is simple but ticks all the boxes to fill your tummy for the day ahead. The hotel is very accessible for disabled and mobility impaired people with a lift that comes right down to street level. The rooms are a little tired but are clean. We would highly recommend the hotel to other families who want to save their money for spending on activities and food rather than a flash hotel to sleep at.

A great quiet place.”

The staff was excellent, rooms were relatively spacious with kettle and fridge. It was within walking distance to Newton train station and Newton food centre that had all the yummy inexpensive food. We travel mostly by train in Singapore. VIP is in a very quiet area with a clean swimming pool. A simple breakfast of toast and tea/coffee was included and I would stay in VIP again when I next visit Singapore.

Well priced hotel just minutes from Orchard Road”

The VIP Hotel is a long established family hotel in a quieter residential area of Singapore, just minutes from Orchard Road. It has large, spacious rooms and is very well priced compared to hotels downtown. The staff are friendly and always helpful.

Lovely Hotel In a Quiet Location Close To Orchard ”

we stayed at the vip for the seccond time and we enjoyed it just as much as the first. this hotel is very relaxing and quiet, the rooms are large the bathrooms are large. the rooms have lots of windows to open so you can relax and listen to the singapore sounds, rain and thunder away from all the traffic. the value for the rooms is great considering its close to orchard road, a quick taxi ride to orchard road will cost you about $4. the vip hotel is 5 minutes walk to some restaurants, and a 711. overall we love staying here, the value, and the size of the rooms makes it worth it to stay here instead of staying on orchard road where we used to stay. i will be staying at the vip hotel again whenever i visit singapore.

Great service. Good price for the room”

My mom and I arrived 11:30am at the VIP hotel. Although the check in time should be 1:00pm, they allowed us to have our room. Also during our check out, we asked earlier that morning if we could check out late, around 1:30pm. They were very accommodating and allowed us to stay even though their check out time is before 12 noon. It's located near Orchard Road. Its near the Bus Stop, we rode Bus 171, 700 and 700A (Bukit Timah). It is also near the MRT station (Newton).
