Great time at Small Hotel in Chiang Mai”
Thai wife American Husband. The Small hotel Chiang Mai is just that small but very usefull, is in a great location and close to the Night market. The Sunday walk is very close also, you could walk it but a Red truck ride is faster. The employees are very helpful and speak very good english for the most part. I would like to give Ann a special thanks as she help us alot while we were there. Ann is at the front desk and specks very good english, Thanks Ann... We stayed at the Small Hotel Chiang Mai for two days and wanted to extend but they were all booked up. I think that in it self shows what a nice hotel it is. The floors and walls have been freshly painted and the bathroom is very clean. It's not a four star hotel with all the trimings but it has what a person needs, a bed, TV, DVD player which you can get free movies from the front desk. It has a bathroom and I found the window looking into the shower from the bedroom very interesting. They do have a curtain to cover the window if you want but that's no fun.. The room service is great and they did a very good job of cleaning the room. The breakfast in the morning is on the 5th floor outside on the roof is great, so relaxing. The food is pretty much the same everday. The do have a cook that will fix your eggs any way you like them which worked out very well for me as I love eggs. They had Thai food mostly. The pool is very small more like a very large hot tub but goes along with the name of the hotel. The water is very refreashing for a short time. The free wireless internet in the room is not that good but down stires in the lobby it's great and fast. Was able to watch American football on Direct TV Supercast on my computer. We will stay there again and I have told my friends about the Agoda and the Small Hotel Chiang Mai.

Great hotel in Chiang Mai! ”
Our 1 night stay at the Small Chiang Mai Hotel was great! We were not there for long, but appreciated being so close to the Night Market that we were able to walk to and from it at night. The breakfast (included in our room's price) was wonderful. Great selection of simple breakfast foods including breads, cereal, ham/sausages, juices, and salad. You can even get a personalized omelet made to order! The view from the breakfast floor was nice as well! Our room was large and had everything we needed (including a hairdryer!). The walls seem thin though and we could hear traffic from outside most of the time. There was only 1 small window and it faced the next building (about 1 foot away!) so no natural light. Unfortunately we had booked a double bed room but ended up getting 2 twins. No matter though as we just pushed the beds together! It wasn't worth bringing up for 1 night. The staff were very friendly and helped us find our way to the Night Market with a complimentary map. Overall, we enjoyed this hotel and would recommend it for anyone looking for a quality, clean, and affordable hotel for a short stay in Chiang Mai.

Excellent value”
This was one of the best hotel I stayed at in Thailand considering the price/service/location. It is located on the historic Thapae road and is walking distance to the canals, markets, and Thapae gate. Breakfast was excellent with a large selection ranging from toasts, croissants, omelette, fruits, bacon, sausages, rice, fish soup, etc... The food and drinks served at the hotel were good and reasonably priced. The room was clean, and comfortable, in-room safe and wifi were convenient too. Also the staff was top notch, very helpful, and courteous. The activities booked at the lobby were good deals, I was there during a low-peak season due to protests in Thailand so that may have helped. The only minor issue was getting hot water for the shower but that's quite typical of the hotels I stayed at in Thailand. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and will go back next year if I stop by Chiang Mai.

Very beautiful hote great service”
I enjoyed my stay very much. Via agoda I've had a great discount. The room was very beautiful with a great shower and a tv with great broadcast. The personnel was very helpful. I booked some activities in the hotel like Jungle flight for example. They pick you up in the hotel and they bring you back. You can pay everything by visa. I think this was very convenient. Night Bazaar and Night Market are on walking distance. Bars are on walking distance too. There are many things to do in Chiang Mai and you can organize this all in the hotel. I haven't had dinner or lunch in the hotel so I can't say anything about the food.

The Small”
I enjoyed my stay at The Small during my time in Chiang Mai. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I liked that they allowed me to give them my luggage for storage since my train had arrived early in the morning before any rooms were ready, and again on the last day until I was ready to catch the train in the evening. If you need any information on what to see in Chiang Mai, they will enthusiastically help you out and arrange transportation if needed. Breakfast is on the top floor and gives excellent views of the area. Breakfast was pretty good and the friendly girl behind the counter will prepare your eggs to order. My only complaint would be that the room could have perhaps used a little more decoration, but all in all a great hotel and staff.

In need of comfortable beds.”
The staff was helpful and friendly. The lady at the breakfast buffet was fantastic. Rooms were clean and tidy. The location was good for us, a Top's nearby, Bangkok Bank across the street, and walking distance to the Night Bazaar. There was a nearby restaurant, Hug Me, with tasty affordable Thai food. The downside were the lumpy beds. The springs could be felt through the padding. The noise from the tuk-tuks (3 wheeled motorbike taxi's) late at night was disturbing. I thought mufflers we're required. You could hear them all over Chiang Mai till 3AM. We enjoyed our stay at The Small.

not so "SMALL" Hotel”
Do not be deceived by its name. The Small Hotel in Chiang Mai is located near the Night Bazaar Market (Chang Klan Rd, 5min walk) and Tha Phae Gate. If possible book your trip with a Sunday as they have a weekly Sunday Night Bazaar at this gate. Although the things you see are similar to the ones at the Night Bazaar street. They have a nice rooftop breakfast patio. Simple basic food, not your overwhelming grand greasy buffet.

The Small Hotel”
Elaborating on the pros and cons. We stayed here for ten days in November 2009. This is a new hotel, so is very clean. The staff are very hard working (never seem to go to bed!) and are very helpful and obliging. We arrived early and after a brief wait we were shown to our room. We stayed in a 'petit' room at the side of the hotel away from the main road - it was quiet and had a reasonable view of the mountains from the large window (afternoon sunshine). - The air conditioning worked very well, as did the large shower. The bed was very comfortable and the room was cleaned everyday. The complimentary in-room WIFI worked very well and we could plug our netbook into the flat screen TV to listen to BBC radio through the speakers. There wasn't a huge number of English TV channels - just news and third rate American films. The hotel, however, provided access to a selection of recently released films on DVD which could be borrowed for free from the reception. Each room has a DVD player along with the TV. Breakfast was served from 6 am to 10 am on the roof of the hotel - There was a good selection of Western and Thai buffet style dishes including yogurts, cereals and fresh fruit and the eggs were served to order - none of that rubbery stuff you sometimes get! -The coffee was real and tasted good. We tended to get to breakfast close to 10 am and some of the Thai dishes had gone cold......no problem! - We just made our selection in a bowl and the staff put it into the frying pan to make it piping hot!! The Hotel is located on the Thapae Road and only the most lazy would suggest it too far from the attractions. In fact it is within easy walking distance of China Town, The fascinating Fruit and Flower Markets, The Night Bazaar and The Sunday Walking Night Market. The Ping River is 200/300 metres away and it's about a 20 minute walk across the river to the Railway Station. The cost of getting from the hotel by Songtheaw to either the Railway Station or the Arcade Bus Station is

I always enjoy staying here”
It's low season, so I really get to enjoy some of the hotels which are often just a little above the price range I prefer......hey, this is Chiang Mai and 97% of the time you're spoiled for choice! Anyway, great, comfortable rooms, the staff are good, breakfast, if included, is good, My favourite rooms are the ones at the front with a balcony overlooking Thapae Road, a great place to relax with a beer for an hour at twilight. You'd think there may be more noise here being on the busy road, but inside it's very quiet and well insulated. Recommended!

The Small Hotel, Chiang Mai”
My family and I stayed at the Small Hotel while visiting Chiang Mai. The rooms were clean and decorated in a hip/colorful style. We had no major complaints! The rain shower didn't have much pressure. The staff were friendly, very helpful and very accommodating. They let us store our luggage for a few hours after check out, since our flight left in the evening. I highly recommend The Small in Chiang Mai!!

New, clean, but overcharges for some services...”
After having to check-out early from another hotel due to limited hygienic standards, coming to the Small Hotel was a delight. This hotel is brand new (about 6 months old), so everything is in great shape and working well (except for the fridge which barely chilled its content). The staff is young and motivated and really super-friendly. Unfortunately it seems to be company policy to rip-off guests when possible. First, as my plane was taking off late (10 pm), I had requested a late check-out (at 7 pm) and was told that I would be charged. I thought this was interesting, as this was more than the Agoda rate for a whole day/night. Next was the airport transfer which was charged at 250 THB which is more than twice as much as the taxi's at the airport charge (120 THB). Nevertheless, as the hotel convinced with a classy interior and generously cut rooms, I would probably stay there again. The locations is execellent too, less than 10 minutes away by foot from the night bazaar.

A really pleasant surprise, very central”
I really enjoyed my stay, the road outside is very busy, so reception can be noisy, but inside my room on only the first floor it was very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was included in my package and was delicious with just enough choice to have a really nice and filling meal to begin the day. The hotel is about thirty seconds from the top end of the night bazaar, and a five minute stroll down to Loy Krow Road and all it has to offer at night. The old city is also about five to ten minutes away, with Tha Pae Road of course leading straight to Tha Pae Gate, this of course being the beginning point of the Sunday Walking Street. The two lowest floors, one and two, have a really nice little sitting area of their own, really nicely decorated, and the hotel has a small bar area in the foyer. Breakfast is in an open sided area on the fifth floor, and as I said it is delicious and ample, and in my case, included. Perfect! There are some big name hotels not far away and I wouldn't consider them over this one, it was a nice stay and I will definitely stay here again.

The Small Hotel”
A well appointed hotel very close to Thapae Gate sunday market, the night market, next door to warorot market and with plenty of transport outside the front door.the monks walk past early each morning collecting food from the locals -a serene and uplifting sight. We have been to chiang mai each year for the past 4 years and have found this hotel to be the best - location wise.it is funky and functional but might not suit those looking for that extra bit of luxury. the staff are amazing - friendly, ever smiling and always ready to help. Champagne at the front desk is a gem full of local knowledge and her English is excellent. The breakfast is unvaried each day, but is adequate and tasty.

So friendly, so fun”
First off everyone - it's a plunge pool, as advertised. It's not a large resort pool with a sunken bar and palm trees. And it is perfectly fine. You just need to learn what a plunge pool really is. An enjoyable experience on all points. The travel desk signed us up for a canopy walk and a cooking class. The front desk always smiled as we walked by. It was a very clean and welcoming hotel. I was surprised by the diversity of the breakfast, which is served on the 5th floor in an open seating area. I would definitely return to the Small Hotel in Chiang Mai.

Perfect accommodation in the heart of Chiang Mai”
We booked this place for one night and it was perfect! Walking distance from Night Bazaar markets, bars and restaurants. The room was clean, shower was great. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The beds were quite firm but apart from that, this was a great place for a 1-night stay in Chiang Mai!

Cute Chic Modern”
The Small Hotel in Chiang Mai is a cute modern hotel near the night bazaar and several temples. There breakfast is pretty basic but good and is on the roof of the restaurant with a nice view. The shower was nice but the water temperature wasnt very consistent. The staff are helpful and cheerful. Nice rooms, a little small but clean and new. Good value for the money.

Comfortable stay in good location”
We had a comfortable stay in The Small but were a bit disappointed after reading some great reviews and seeing hotel photos. The hotel is conveniently located in one of the main streets. Less than 5 minutes to the Night Market and afternoon food market and about 10-15 min to the old part of the town and Thapae Gate. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the bathroom was large and clean. On the other hand, the hotel photos must have been taken long time ago and the rooms have serious signs of wear. Forget about beautiful decor details and flowers seen in the photos. Also, no welcome tray with champagne is awaiting you either ;) We did receive welcome drinks vouchers and thought it was a great start but we changed our minds after having been served a glass of watery orange-y liquid... Our room was large but had no window that you would like to look through so we ended up having our curtains closed at all times. The bed was ok but very soft and uneven. Our bedsheets were stained at the heads so we had to ask to have them changed. A big bummer is the red lcv covered floor. It really spoils the overall look and feel. You'll be better off taking a cheaper option without breakfast which has limited options and is not really tasty. It's survey on a roof terrace which is a nice touch but don't expect stunning views. Forget about the pool which is really small and we've never seen a single person there. And if you don't like throwing money away, don't use the travel agency desk in the lobby. Just go to any of the nearby guesthouses and you'll get every trip way cheaper (e.g. a bus to Pai was quoted as 250 baht while every single guesthouse charges you 180 baht max including hotel pickup...). All in all, an ok stay in good location and with super friendly staff. However, we would look for a newer hotel within the same price range next time.
