Gorgeous view from Cabins 6-9; quiet; friendly”

restaurant, balcony, friendly staff from Thailand and Burma

My partner and I spent a glorious 5 days on Ko Racha Yai. It is a beautiful, accessible island. Bungalow Raya is just off the main beach (which is a good thing, as the main beach gets crowded with speedboats depositing and collecting day-trippers from and to Phuket). This is not a reason to avoid Ko Racha Yai and the Bungalow resort, because we would simply walk a mere 10 minutes through jungle paths to the very quiet and beautiful Siam Beach. Bungalow Raya's restaurant is popular with the day-trippers at lunch, so we avoided the 12 o'clock package lunch crowds and ate at Siam Bar on Siam beach, or have a late lunch. The beer was always cold and the food was so very good at Bungalow Raya. Do NOT miss out on the amazing massages right beside the restaurant and the cool Rasta bar beside it!!

Best stay”

First to know about koh racha is that there is no ferry to koh racha! On the Internet stays wrong thinks. Contact the hotel a day before you arrive. They can pick you up at the pier. We have payed 500 baht per person. When you wanna go to koh racha on your own the only Chance is to go with a boat of a daily tour and this is really expensive. We payed 1000 baht per Person. You arrive directly on the beach. On the hill there is the hotel. You can reach them only on the beach. There is no way. Its really hard when you have normal luggage. It is 500 meters to walk. The hotel is perfect. We had a nice Bungalow on the first row. Really comfortable. Big enought for 2 people and 2 luggages. They clean the Bungalow every day. Bathroom was also great. The Restaurant was amazing. Really tasty. The breakfast is small but ok. Try the strawberry shake its the best. The Restaurant close between 9 and 10pm. The Island is really quite. To go to another part of the Island is useless. There is nothing than the main beach. The beach is amazing. Clear water and white sand. A few stones are in the water. But it is ok. It is important to know that there are coming many boats with day tourists. Most of them are Chinese. They coming between 9:30 am and 5pm. At that time the beach is really crowded. But when they leaf you feel like on a lonely Island because you have the beach totally for your own. Go there. But 2 nights are enough.

Have a postcard beach all to yourself”

This was one of the highlights of our trip, the bays here are truly picturesque with powder soft sand and tuqoise blue water. There is a lot to see out of the resort area so make sure you go and hike around. One thing to know is that the transfer to the island is part of a day trip. So in the morning, you will spend it with the day trip crew and go snorkeling, have some time on the beach and then have a buffet lunch at the Bungalow Raya Resort - this was all included in the price of our transfer. So definitely worth it - just make sure you dress right and pack the right things! Once the day trips all clear out (around 2:30 - 3pm) the magic of the place comes to the fore, you have the entire beach and island to yourself. It was amazing there.

I was reading some of the feedbacks that there are lizzards and other insects, but to tell the truth I was happy to see them all even if I am afraid of them. It is amazing place to stay, it is the place where You and just a Nature. Just try to avoid stepping to them and enjoy your trip. There are amazing staff who are ready to help you anytime, beautiful view to the sea. Comparing to other hotels around Raya Bungalow has affordable price for staying and good location. Killer location.”

Views, close to beach, bargain transfers.

BR has the best views of Raya resorts on a headland overlooking the nicest beach&bay. A few bungalows are 2nd row with interrupted or blocked views. Abt 3 front rowers have tree-interrupted or blocked views. Our fan bungalow (trad thatched wall/tin roof) looked the oldest with a 5 degree slant but had best position, just behind the headland viewpoint. Probably first built & must soon be replaced with one of the newer aircon jobs. Ours was spacious, comfy (although my wife thought the slight slant made one side of the bed a bit sloped-didn't worry me), had a nice fan&effective screens. The veranda was unlined & the tin roof radiated bulk heat after 1100 – but plenty of nearby trees to sit under & admire the view. The restaurant has good food&service but prices 50-100% higher than I am used to in places of this type reflecting the influx of diners from the nearby luxury resort whose prices are eye watering by Thai standards. But BR's breakfasts were fair value. For budget lunches/dinner/beers go 10 mins up the cross island track to RAYA FATHER. BR's island transfers are a bargain because for 1000b total you get to do all the activities incl buffet lunch&snorkeling trip for half the price the many day trippers on the boat pa + it includes free transfers to/from your Phuket hotel. But the return at 1500-1600 will not suit people heading for some flights etc. We came one way with BR & they organised an earlier return with another outfit (it didn't have free transfers) for 600b each way. Ring the resort to organise pick up and boat - they didn't answer my emails. Value? I've stayed at dozens of Thai island bungalows, some with even better views - rooms of this standard average 600-1000b. BR's 1250 without breakfast is thus high. But is the location worth 250 over say Raya Father's similar standard 1000 jobs? Oh yes.

Amazing beach, bungalow with fan - value for money.”

Travelled with my father and 4yo son. We got 4 nights in fan-room. I thought we would suffer without aircond - but barely noticed it. It was cold at nights with fan, so that we covered up with blankets and switched fan off early morning. Day-naps: my son slept outside on the balcony and was thrilled with this experience (inside quite hot at 12-14PM). Did not suffer from mosquitoes at all, but maybe we're just lucky. We stayed in two bungalows, number 13 and number 16. The later one is new, built just recently - very clean and pleasant. Number 13 - well, a bit old, but expected for the price we paid (around 50$/night). Overall, value for money with this accommodation and amazing place (Racha Yai) to visit. I'd love for the room to have teapot/fridge - but staff in restaurant kind enough to store my son's medicine in fridge and provide with free hot-water on demand.

Location, price and the environment

The resort is beautiful and it's a very good price for staying in Racha Island. The only thing is the humid. It's too humid to sleep well, and there's no hot water to shower. But compare to the price, it's lovely. And the restaurant. Very pretty and relaxing.

Very nice experience. Well exceeded my expectation”

Location. View. Service.

The house we lived in was facing the sea, surrounded by plants and flowers and having two lounges in front of it under the roof. It's so cozy to just lie down on the lounges and look into the sea and feel the breeze on the face. The location is perfect. 1 min to get to the sea in front of the house, 5 min to get to the white beach of the most luxurious hotel on the island. Before we arrived, we were afraid that the house might be too shabby or bugs might appear everywhere. But actually the house seemed to have been repaired. No holes, no bugs or lizards. Only one cockroach appeared and then disappeared, causing no problem. The service is quite good to that price. They offered a tractor to take us to the dock the next day, which is very convenient. There's no air conditioner but two fans. But we liked it because it made the outer environment cozy instead of too hot because of the heat transfer. At night it's not hot inside either. No hot water, but the tap water is not sea water either. It's fresh. In one words, we are very satisfied with the house. That night we wandered about and thought ours was the best house in this hotel. We called ourselves lucky.

Peaceful island”

View, beach,

Resort on the cliff with good view. Not so cheap food and drinks, many holes on our bungalow. A lot of ants. We havent had good sleeps during the nights. A renovation on the bungalows is a must and needed! Beautiful island but tourists leave their garbage on the beach.me and my husband walked through the beach on the nights infront the racha resort while we were there and take away the garbage left by day-tour tourists. The resorts in the island should work together to fix the garbage problem if they want tourists to keep coming back. The island is a paradise today but it might not be 5 to 10 years from now. It's a shame.

Simple & easy life, great value for money for the Raya island stay. The hotel locate on the best bay of this island with the unbelievable price compare to others. If you like the backpacker lifestyle, you will enjoy it here. The price for food is quite high but it's also normal for all tourist area. They also accept major credit card. And if you want the transfer boat to the island, they also have their own boat service to.

Quiet and beautiful views from your front porch

we had a great time on raya island and these bungalows are located at the prettiest beach. although they are very basic, older bungalows that are not tip top in cleanliness, they are inexpensive and are conveniently located to a world class beach. they make it possible to stay on a tropical island with great snorkeling, body board surfing, and sunbathing on a white sand beach with a low volume of tourists. because most people who come to the island are day tourists, the beaches are a great place to relax in the morning before the sun gets too intense and in the evening to watch the sunset.

Pretty, but not value for money”

I get that this is a fairly remote island, and everything costs a bit more to be brought there. But you can't help but feel ripped off for anything here, from food and drink to holiday activities. Partly the prices, but also just a general grumpy, don't-care-about customers attitude all over the island, which ultimately just managed to spoil each day in some way. You don't get water or coffee in the room in each day, nor is the a kettle to make your own. You might get a free snake in the room, like I did. I didn't mind this, but some guests might be freaked out. The breakfast is a total joke - and DO NOT choose the Agoda Room+Breakfast, its cheaper to pay for the breakfast in the restaurant. Agoda charges approx £4 to £5 = +/- 250baht, while the price onsite is only 150baht. That said, it's still the worst breakfast service I've ever had. They pretend there are 5 set menus but it's literally only 5 different ways of doing eggs. They could just show 1 set and ask how you want your eggs. Good luck if you're vegetarian or you don't eat bread or eggs... One positive is that the manager Toto is a decent guy to communicate with, everyone else irritated when you asked for anything. I also had a fair night dive with Aqua Raya - every other dive price there is MUCH cheaper to arrange with a Phuket service that will take you all the way there and with 3 dives included for cheaper than trying to dive if you're on Raya already. Overall, it's a very pretty island, but gets swarmed by day trips with hundreds of tourists, and isn't worth the cost.

The view from the Bungalow, the clear waters and closeness to 5 star facilities in need

Great position and most romantic little getaway only 30 minutes by speed boat from Phuket. The view and sunset from the bungalow is perfect, the food in the little restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced. If you are allergic to cats, stay away, as there are many... also in the restaurant. We also had a rather large monitor lizard cruise around our bungalow. They are shy and harmless to humans and made for some great pics.
