I stayed in a private room with a queen-sized bed by myself. I didn't have high expectations, but it was just as clean as the pictures! The bathroom and shared spaces were also well-maintained and stress-free. The front desk is open from 8:30 am to 7 pm, and after that, you can enter and exit through another door using a key card. The coin laundry and dryer were available 24 hours, which was helpful! Although I didn't use it, it seems that the night staff can handle some things if you call them. Check-in is from 1 pm, but you can leave your luggage in the storage room as soon as the front desk opens. All the staff members were friendly and cheerful, and they explained things clearly when I asked questions. They also provided information and reservations for activities like Kuranda and scuba diving. During my stay, the room wasn't cleaned (it might be different for stays longer than a week?), but the small trash can provided was refreshed without me noticing (laughs). At night, the neighboring restaurant and bar can get quite noisy, but considering the great location and service for the price, it's tolerable, and overall, I'm very satisfied! Thanks to this, I was able to enjoy a comfortable trip without any inconvenience.

Going out from the hostel leads to the Lagoon public swimming pool, with a bar next to it offering an 20% discount with the room key. It is quite convenient to go anywhere, and the pier of the Great Barrier Reef is just a short walk away. The kitchen on the top floor is very comfortable with a sea view and a Ferris wheel. Unlike many hostels that are dirty and messy, this one is highly recommended for backpackers coming to Cairns!

Best place to stay in cairns ”
I stayed 2 1/2 months and could not find a better place in cairns. I stayed in three different rooms, each with a lockable unit under the bed (bring your own lock) and all the rooms were pretty clean, with housekeeping coming in everyday. There were also communal bathrooms on each floor, 2 showers, 2 toilets, 4 sinks (the one I used anyway) so there’s a lot of space, I never really had to wait for a shower to be available. They have the best kitchen, it does get busy sometimes but there are like 10 separate stoves, 10 sinks, 10 drying racks, 1 microwave, a panini press and a rice cooker (no oven unfortunately but there are ways around that), one of the best things was a walk in fridge which means plenty of room to keep your food which I’ve had trouble with in other hostels. The kitchen and dining area are in the same space and overlook the esplanade Street/lagoon so you can be sat eating breakfast or look up from cooking at the stove and just see the most amazing views of the sea/mountains/streets below. The kitchen is also cleaned three times everyday - it makes the world of difference when you’ve been travelling a lot and get to cook in a clean kitchen. There’s also a tv room with large sofas and a bunch of streaming services which is great for movie nights. Both kitchen and movie room close at 10pm but there are sofas you can go sit on located in the center on each floor once they close. Reception and staff are pretty friendly, and will help to accommodate you, like requesting it stay in the same room if you are extending your stay and will give you vouchers for nearby experiences/restaurants. Overall I would absolutely recommend and I would go back myself and stay there again - I loved it!

The hostel is perfectly located, right on the esplanade and is definitely one of the better ones in Aus. Rooms are really nice, we stayed in a private room and there’s plenty of space and light. Beds are super comfy and there’s lots of common spaces to enjoy including a big kitchen and tv room. Just a few odd things about cleanliness, upkeep and staff. Everytime we used the kitchen it was fairly dirty, the drinking water was always empty and some of the chairs with soft fabric were covered in mould. Most of the time guests do wash up after themselves but that shouldn’t be a replacement for maintaining and replacing things. All the chopping boards in particular absolutely stank.It felt a bit like staff hid downstairs and didn’t really pay attention to whether or not the upstairs area were maintained properly. Staff were also a bit funny sometimes to deal with. We weren’t given enough shower gel or shampoo and they refused to replace it before we’d been there three nights. We also had some dirt and a small ant infestation when we got there. No big deal and we were fine cleaning it up ourselves but they made it seem like we were being a bit difficult for doing that. Absolutely still recommend staying there, just a few bits for them to pick up on.

We will pass your review on the cleanliness of kitchen/common area/ ants in the room to our housekeeping team. Our cleaning staff clean our kitchen 3 times each day after breakfast/lunch/dinner time. As we are a hostel, we do have a great number of guests sharing the kitchen and lounge area, sometimes it can have busy time for cleaners to look after.
