A Gem Within Little India”

I had visited Singapore previously and on my first trip had stayed at a more expensive hotel in the Outram Park area. I was a little apprehensive about staying in Little India, but since my friend and I were trying to get the best deal on our accommodations we opted for Hotel 81 Dickson (she had stayed in the hotel on a previous trip). Hotel 81 Dickson turned out to be much better than I expected. Here are the things that I liked: - I arrived at the hotel a little after 12:00pm and asked if I could be given an early check-in. I had taken the train from the airport and then walked to the hotel so I must have looked like a sight--luckily, the front desk staff was pleasant and told me that the room was already available so I could check-in. - The hotel is really clean and smells nice. - The staff cleaned our room every day even if we kept forgetting to put the sign on our door. Our complimentary bottles of water were also given daily without fail, which is nice since bottled water can get pretty expensive in Singapore. - There are lots of places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. And not just Indian restaurants and eateries, too--there were places that served Thai and Chinese dishes as well. - The rooms are small compared to some hotels, but my friend and I found it roomy enough. I mean, we had our suitcases and bags spread out in the room and we could still walk around without tripping over things. As for getting around, we found it fairly easy as there is a bus stop nearby and of course, the Little India MRT station is a 10-15 minute walk away. The one thing we hope that can be improved would be the number of English-language channels on the TV, the addition of HBO, Star Movies, etc. would have made our stay at Hotel 81 Dickson even better :)

great location, efficient service”

It was a great stay at hotel 81 dickson. Got there at 330pm and check-in was painless and fast, as we just showed our agoda voucher for their verification. staff was courteous and professional. The place was simple and was perfect for our needs as we were out every day and only needed a place to sleep through the nights. Check out process was the same thing - fast and efficient. The rooms are clean and everything is relatively new and well-maintained. Rooms are cleaned daily. No windows for our rooms but we didn't mind as this allowed us to sleep more and wake up later in the day. Hotel was near everything. It was a good 5-7 minute walk to either Bugis or Little india, giving you choices on where to go. There are food places/hawker centers nearby so food was never a problem. Almost everything can be walked from there, if you enjoy walking. Mustafa, Serangoon (little india), Sim Lim Square (electronics), Bugis Village (bargain items), Kampong Glam mosque, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Orchard Road ara all walkable. There's a bus stop just a few meters from the hotel if you want to take a bus. Will definitely book here next time I visit Singapore.

Excellent value for Singapore”

As my first experience staying at the Hotel 81 chain I was very impressed with the Hotel 81 Dickson branch. Newly renovated and very fresh and stylish. Plenty of space for a room in this price range and the location was great. About five minutes to Little India(great food and MRT station)and about 10 minutes to Bugis MRT which connects one to Changi airport in about 30 minutes.One street away(Dunlop St)has a number of backpacker accomodations as well as many internet cafes, bars and of course lots of food options.As well this area has alot of interesting old Chinese shophouses for thse who enjoy architecture.Certainly the next time I'm in Singapore I would enjoy a return stay at the Hotel 81 Dickson.

Cozy clean convenient”

Hotel 81 Dickson offers great value for your money - an ideal budget hotel. No frills so you don't pay extra. Nice staff, clean room with clean sheets, cozy bed, and AC controls that work. Our room had a DVD player and LCD TV. Everything is almost new so that's nice. Conveniently located very close to an LRT bus stop, it's close to both Bugis and Little India MRT stations. In our four nights stay, we did not eat breakfast at the hotel and found a small restaurant (opp the bus stop before Sim Lim towers) that serves kheema paratha (you tuck it in with a divine spicy curry)- better food than any place in Little India or around Mustafa.

Very clean and new hotel, dislike the location”

Visiting Singapore the first time when I chose to stay at this hotel. I'd say I was turned off a bit when I saw that it was at Little India but since I'm a solo traveler, I figured I'll be staying out most of the time and just really needed a hotel with comfortable and VERY CLEAN bed and bath. This I found Hotel 81 offered with a few more plus points :) I liked how near it was to Bugis (which is pretty much accessible to places you can visit in Singapore). It's true that this hotel is very new. I liked how very clean and comfortable the hotel interiors were. It was well maintained and my room had all the necessities I needed. Although I stayed at a room with no window (that was a bit hard because you will have no idea what time it was outside), it was quite big for one person (and I liked it). I only disliked the surrounding areas where the hotel itself was situated. Since it was at the edge of Little India, it was quite a walk from Bugis Station; it was sort of compensated by the nearest Bus Stop at Sim Lim Tower, however. Over-all I'd recommend this hotel for solo travelers who are on a budget but are looking for a private, very clean and comfortable bed and bath. It has all the necessities you'd need and a little bit more =)

Clean hotel with helpful staff at good location”

i stay for only 1 night in hotel 81 dickson with my friends. it was a nice weekend. the hotel is very clean and its new, i can still smell the paint. it located very close to sim lim square, and 2 mrt station (little india and bugis) just within walking distance. the staff is very friendly. we arrive at around 9:00am, and we wanted to play all day in universal studio, so we go directly to hotel and ask them if we can put our baggage in the hotel, instead they let us check in earlier without additional charges. and when we want a taxi, the staff help us to call, and then when the taxi arrive, he go outside (the sun is shining brightly and its really a hot day) to make sure we get the right taxi. i will surely recommend this hotel to my friends. the downside is just the room have very basic bathroom (no bathtub), but with the price we pay, it was worth it.

Taking the stress out of travelling”

I travel to S E Asia at least once a year and mostly stay overnight in Singapore. I always stay at Dickson 81 because it is very affordable by Singapore prices, the staff are very helpful and speak good English and is close to several low cost restaurants in Little India and public transport is close by. I highly recommend Dickson 81 for short stay visits.

Nice Hotel and v gd location”

I found my stay at Hotel Dickson great! The staff were very helpful and polite and the hotel itself was great. My room was very clean and modern, equipped with a fully functioning en suite, big LCD tv at the end of my bed and a kettle with a selection of teas and coffee. Have been travelling around for over a month now and given the price of the hotel (which wasn't too expensive considering it's singapore) I'd say it was one of the best i have stayed in so far. Also is in a great location just on the outskirts of little india and around 5-10 mins walk to raffles city and orchard rd. Literally everything you want to see (apart from the zoo) is within walking distance.

Hotel 81”

I've stayed in most of the hotel 81 branches around little india/ bencoolen over the last few years, and this hotel has bigger rooms than the rest, is more quiet and where I prefer to stay. Staff are great as always and the hotel is always clean. Only downside is that its not in a good place to hail a cab. If you go down to the corner of Sim Lim you can get one easy enough any time if day, and most taxi drivers are not to sure of the location for drop offs (tell them to just follow dickson road after turning of Serangoon)

When I entered Hotel 81 Locor in Singapore, the staff introduced how to get Hotel 81 Dickson from Locor with a pamphlet prepared at the front. They are looking family hotel, I guess. This hotel is located at downtown and very comfortable to access subway to take a round Singapore. I introduced this hotel through a book published on Amazon under the title of "Singapore" and "Malaysia Singapore". If I have another chance to visit Singapore, I will use this hotel again.

great hotel”

i have stayed in various hotels in the hotel 81 chain and this is one of my favourites due to its location, 5 minutes to little india and Sim Lim, 15 minutes walk to boat quay. Always a quick check in and the rooms are always clean and tidy on arrival. one small problem is the taxi i took from the airport couldnt find dickson road so the journey was a little longer than expected, also, hailing a cab anywhhere within 2 blocks is near impossible, just get the frnt desk to get you one, 10 minutes wait tops

i really like our stay in hotel 81 dickson, it is an ideal place to stay for people who are in tight budget. it is near 2 mrt stations which is bugis and little india. near an electronic gadget mall, near the 24 hour dept store (mustafa) and also the bugis village for souvenirs. i would defintely return to the hotel next time i come to singapore

Clean Hotel / Good Location”

I went to Singapore with my family and we enjoyed staying at Hotel 81 Dickson because of the good location. It is near the Bugis MRT Station and there are nearby hawker food stalls which serve good food. The Bugis Village is just 5 minutes walk where you can buy souvenirs and other items at reasonable prices. It is also near the Sim Lim Square where you can check out a wide variety of electronics. The hotel staff is also very friendly and accommodating. I will definitely stay at this hotel when I go back to Singapore.

81 Dickson is fantastic”

The hotel is superbly located with food courts and eateries every where around. The staff are very much helpful and jovial, always ready to help you.I should say most importantly the rooms are great value for money. The lobby is very appealing and beautiful with nice sofas and furnitures. Personally I amyself is bit of a big city skyline lover and the room I was in offered a magnifiscant view of the skyline as because I was in 4th floor. It was a fantastic experience to stay in 81 Dickson. I would suggest that please choose this hotel so that you can have a comfortable stay in Singapore.

Best price and nice hotel in Singapore”

I was very impressed with Hotel 81 Dickson! It was a reasonable price with very nice modern clean room like I ever stay at hotel in Japanese. It was very easy to catch the taxi or bus with only two minutes walk to main road. It has many restaurants around the hotel and very near to Suntec City Hall and not so far from Orchard road. It will be my first choice when I visit Singapore next trip.

A Nice and Simple Budget Hotel (^_^)”

Stayed here on March 7th-8th, 2009. The room isn't too big, but quite comfort. Simple and decoration. The lighting is nice, clean and bright. Toilet isn't big, but it's clean and nice. The location, which is in Little India, also nice for tourist, not far from Bugis and Chinatown where you can walk around, find a nice place to eat and shopping. There's also an LCD TV. Overall, Hotel 81 Dickson is a nice budget hotel.

Hotel 81 Dickson is very near to Bugis MRT Station & Little India MRT Station. There are many nice and delicious food can be found nearby. The staff are very helpful. I had a good experience to stay here. It will be my first choice if I need to stay in Singapore.
