All about the comfort and safety”

It's my first time I've ever been to Singapore, or strictly speaking to abroad, and looking for a nice, safe, and affordable hotel was not so easy. Lucky I found this hotel. There are some 81 hotels, but I picked this 81 Gold. The reviews are all good and the place seems friendly, so I directly booked it and it wasn't disappointing. Once arrived, I was surprised that 81 Lucky was right across the Gold. But for some reasons, I felt safer with Gold. For a female solo traveler like me, the room is spacious enough with a superior bed, a TV screen hanging on the wall in front of the bed, a desk on the side with a small chair, a trash bin under it, and the large window on the other side so you can see the street in front of the hotel. The bed quite dominated the whole space, but there are still space to put your luggage regardless so don't worry about it. I liked to watch the TV while laying on the bed, facing the TV directly, watching Youtube videos all night long (haha!). The wifi was great as well. The bathroom is clean and bright, and the floor is not slippery although the water is all there while you're taking the shower. The shower can do both hot and cold water. The sink does also. My suggestion, you bring your own bath amenities because they only provide 2 toothbrushes, 2 towels and shower gel for both body and hair (but better bring your own shampoo and shower gel tho, along with toothpaste). The bus stop is only 1 minute walking since the public street is just right to the left from the hotel. There is also 24hr halal Indonesian and Indian food sellers right in the corner of the street, only 15 seconds walking from the hotel. There is a large seafood restaurant across it. The 7eleven shop is near the bus stop. The nearest MRT station is Aljunied, about 3 minutes walking from the hotel. There are some Chinese and other halal food stalls near the station. Overall, it's been a pleasant stay in 81 Gold.

We chose Hotel 81 Gold because it was the least shabby looking option among the budget hotels in Singapore and it turned out to be ah-ma-zing! Same as in photos. Elegant gold & black color scheme. Room was tidy, cleaned up like new every day. Comfy beds, big window with thick shade - necessary for a sunny country. Shower head with 3 settings (my fav was mist) & strong water pressure. TV with Internet access. I asked for a quiet room and got exactly just that. Did not hear a thing from my neighbors except for some muffled sounds when people were in the hallway. Hotel is 10 mins walking from MRT, a bit far considering that you probably have luggage with you. But the MRT itself is on Green line, convenient access to both City center and Airport. Didn't have much interaction with the staff but they were polite as far as I am concerned. Minor minus points: Slippers & cotton buds not available. Room size quite small so not much space for big suitcases.

Arrived at the hotel a little early. Greeted with smiles and an early check in. Staff were informative , attentive and courteous, a real asset to their employers. Room was as advertised , which in many ways exceeded my expectations. Clean and fresh . Aircon worked really well , shower was powerful and temperature control responded well. Two lifts to our seventh floor room. No external noise , a little internal corridor noise but nothing to raise any concerns over sleeping. They have laundry machines and dryers at their sister hotel just a few minutes away. They offered use of iron too. Bedding clean, bed comfy, tv large wall mounted flatscreen with cable tv, YouTube and you can stream from your phone too. Around the hotel there were countless dining options , mrt station was just a short stroll. Yes this is a lively area. Yes the room is a little small. . Hotel 81 Gold gets a big thumbs up from me

Great place to stay for budget vacation”

Great cleanliness, staff very friendly. Great facilities at affordable cost. Location might not be comfortable for children since it was in red-light district area. will definitely stay at hotel 81 gold again next time we visit singapore.

Exceptional”

The place is almost new. Extremely clean and good service. Location is close to subway and bus stops (only few stops away from Changi airport). I`ve stayed in Chinatown hotel for almost the same amount but cant compare the facilities cleanliness, 81 Gold is like an luxury place compare to it.Room is not so big but very well maintained and build it even has smart tv in it. If you dont mind taking subway wherever you go this place is perfect option.

Great Hotel with many places to eat nearby ”

This is a very well priced hotel for Singapore. The room and the hotel went above and beyond my expectations on what I was paying in Singapore (USD$37) per night. If you love food and like to be near public transportation than this is the place for you. The moment you leave the hotel its food galore outside and very well priced. If you're a person that pays 37$USD a night and expect all the amenities that come with a 5 star hotel you will be disappointed. I think many of the Indians and Sri Lankans that complain on here think they're going to get the Marina Bay Sands hotel at USD$37. I will stay here again and will definitely recommend this hotel.

Great value for budget travelers”

Location is good, clean, and safe. There is a cheap Indian restaurant on the corner that serves excellent food (get the mutton briyani and prata with teh ice). 7-Eleven is nearby. Walk to Aljunied MRT takes 7-15 minutes depending on your foot speed. Hotel lobby is sparse, just a bench, front desk, and luggage storage. Room is small (as most budget SG hotels are), but it is very clean and has a window! Bathroom is tiny but clean. Expect to get the whole bathroom floor, toilet, and sink wet after you take a shower since there is no divider. But leave the exhaust fan on overnight, and it will dry quickly. TV has limited channels, no bidet in the bathroom, space for luggage is limited, door is thin so you can hear people passing by in the hallway. Otherwise, it is an excellent hotel in Geylang given its location, cleanliness, and window! (Don't be put off by Geylang being the red light district. SG's red light district is not at all like other countries'. It is safe and clean.)

Very Good Hotel For the Price”

Really recommend this hotel for a friend. I have stayed three nights here. Before my stay at this hotel I stayed at Fragnance-Ruby hotel for two nights. Both hotels looks same in every feather except the washroom (In here washroom is bit compact but can managed). By comparing the two hotels I would prefer Hotel 81-Gold than the Fragnance- Ruby.

Super Clean and Value for money ”

Rooms are sparkling clean with modern interiors. However, they are not sound proof and you can easily hear the adjacent rooms if there's a TV turned on or if a baby is crying. Rooms are very small also. If you're looking for a budget stay that is comfortable in a decent location, Hotel 81 Gold is a right choice.

Decent Clean hotel very bare bones minimal and functional”

Lots of reviews mention that this hotel has very thin walls and lots of guests can be heard across the rooms. Rooms and bathroom is very small. They also mention that this is in a red light district. I can corroborate that the rooms and bathroom are indeed very small. However I did not hear too much of loud noise across the rooms. Nor did the surroundings outside seem to be like a red light district. I stayed at the hotel for four nights and the hotel seems fine for somebody who would be outside the whole day and just come to crash at the hotel at night. The small rooms made it difficult for a family but we managed. the hotel had no F&B or other facilities like in larger hotels. In summary I would say its a decent place to simply sleep at night.

Room is small but has everything you need. Is very clean and have also big TV screen and good PRIVATE wifi! Position is very good. You are not in the center but you are in a very nice neibourhood with lots of eateries wit her afordable prices. Staff is extremely profesional and helps you with everythimg they can! If you are visisting Singapore for.just few days is the best choice. Two MRT lines.just few steps and both 20 minutes to.the.center or to the airport. Very recommended

Nice small, clean room”

The room was small, we had to rearange it a bit in order to fit two big bags. But apart from that the room is well organized, with a fridge. Very clean bathroom. The price we paid was almost the same as the dormitory beds closer to the center so still quite expensive but comparing to the overall prices in Singapore it is a good value.

Great Little Clean Hotel”

Singapore can be very expensive. This hotel was clean and courteous staff. They pointed out where the locals eat. Food court on Old Airport Rd. A few blocks toward the water. Was close enough to MRT. Both Stations are about the same. Check google maps so you do not get confused over street numbering. Both directions require zig zaging to arrive with least distance. The rooms are small but we only were in for sleeping and showers...which were great! 2 days and no problems. Get the MTR visitor pass from airport 2 days 16.00 Singapore. Trip from airport and one other basically pays for itself. Also used on busses.

minimal, basic efficiency”

Hotel 81 was great for my needs in terms of convenience, essentials and cleanliness. I was only in Singapore for one night so this was suitable for my needs and inexpensive. It met all my efficiency needs and was clean however minimal with no ambiance. The only real issue I had that it was super noisy. every sound in the hallway on my floor could be heard as if it was in the room.

It was a second times I stayed in Hotel 81 Gold. The location was good, walking distance to Aljunied MRT. Convenient shop nearby the hotel area.

Good locale at a decent price!”

This hotel is tucked away from the main streets, however it isn’t short on being near som excellent places to eat, and about a 10 minute walk to the MRT Line. The rooms are squeaky clean, spacious (for Singapore) and the staff is very warm. If you got a few dollars more to spend and looking for a mid level budget spot, this is that.

This was my second time staying at Gold. Front desk personnel were polite and helpful, and provided me with all of my special requests. I like what this hotel has to offer!

Good enough”

This hotel offers the basic accommodations in modern conveniences. It is quite high-tech and I particularly like the fact that I felt very safe and at home. I just do not like the idea that this is near the 'brothels' of Geylang and I was surprised to see ladies of the night hanging out when I looked down from my bedroom window. It is very near bus stops and local restaurants. The staff are really friendly.
