Where to stay in Bay of Plenty
Bay of Plenty hotels & accommodations

We stayed 3 nights, the staff started the heater in the room before we arrived, that was really lovely since it was quite cold (May). The room is big, it had a spa on the terrace. The staff was super friendly, they booked some activities for us around Rotorua, gave us advice and plenty of coupons too. We ended up staying at Quest also in Napier and Auckland.

It is located very near i-site which tour shuttle buses are. Walking distance to food street and if you walk further down, there is a beautiful harbour which might have event during weekends. I happened to come across Moscow circus and there is a banner stating Gypsy fair during weekend. Very near government garden (just next to it). Walking distance to Polynesian spa ...

This was our third Rotorua visit and by far the best one, the location even though 20 mins outside of the city Centre was just great, lodges very modern, spacious, clean and the resort itself had lots of activities to keep the kids busy while the adults rest after a day out. A well kept little haven would highly recommend. The only disappointment for us was the restaur...

We were pleasantly surprised with how nice this hotel/hostel was. The woman at check in was very nice and even changed our reservation so that our group could stay in one room together. They had free tea and coffee near the reception desk. When we got to our room, our beds were crisp and clean, as with the rest of the room. House cleaning even came in in the morning to...

My daughter and I booked online for 3 nights at $120 per night for a superior room with 2 queen beds. The room looked good, but had no air-conditioning. It was unbelievably stifling after a hot day and the windows would only open a few centimetres. The hotel was fully-booked with large bus tour groups. To their credit, a room was found for us, with air-con, after I sto...

We used this hotel for our wedding night which had originally been planned for a Friday. But due to inclement weather being forecast for the Friday we decided to bring the wedding forward to the Tuesday. Both the hotel and Agoda responded to the change of booking without any issues. The room was clean, well equipped, spacious and with a great dual aspect view over the ...

The room was spacious and spotless with an enormous bathroom. As with most of Rotarua, you do get the rotten egg smell but it's not overpowering. A fan would have been nice as the heater/air con(?) on the wall doesn't seem to help with reducing the temperature. The car park is a bit tight so wouldn't be suitable for a campervan if you were having a night off shower blo...

We have stayed in this resort during one of the weekends in October 2016. Our booking was absolutely last minute - as we really didn't plan to stay overnight in Rotorua, but it was getting late and we decided to book a place. So booking was done literally 2-3 hours before we came to check-in & gladly we had no problems with that. The rooms price was about $160 (deluxe ...

We can't fault Sport of Kings Motel as it was fantastic. From the moment I stepped through the door to check in I knew that the positive reviews I'd already read about this motel were right. The owners were so friendly and helpful and the facilities were above expectation. We stayed in room 1 which was 2 bedroom self contained, it had 4 single beds in 1 room and a ...

This 5-star hotel experience is beyond our expectation. We booked the hotel for our 20th marriage anniversary, we are so merrily surprised that James has gave us free upgrade to the amazing superior suite. We love every moments we stayed at this hotel. Its garden view is breath-taking; the room is spacious, clean and comfortable. James greeted us at the stairs when o...

We were very much impressed by the friendliness of the owner couple. Our check in was quick and we could even check in earlier than the usual time, which was great. The room was comfortable and clean. The host was happy to give us info. about what to visit in Rotorua and quick in helping us to book a tour to Mitai Maori Village, which is highly recommended. I love the ...

There's some problem when I check in the hotel. I been told that the room that I requested is not available due to dupe booking. It's make me very angry cause I had paid for it. Anyhow, the receptionist is trying the best to solve it. End up, I have been upgraded to another type of room without any extra charge and include breakfast for us. Although, it's only continen...

One of the best hotel i have lived so far, not because it is a luxury brand, there are, however, so many surprise during my visiting. this is a family business, and the owner is so helpful and so kindness. Answered all of my questions and even help me to book the tour with discount. Also, close to shopping the biggest shopping center in town. absolutely fabulous !!! hi...

Room came with double beds and very spacious. Front desk staff were really helpful in providing information on tours and sightseeing around Rotorua. Check in was fast within 5 mins. You can park your car at the back, if not available there are plenty of free parking at the road in front of the hotel. Breakfast is recommended as they have quite a number of choices like ...
Floors, curtains, windows, shower and tables a bit dirty (TV remote very sticky!). Bed linnen clean (which was a relief). No much toilet paper for 5 guests we were (just one roll), so we had to go and ask for more. They didn't have toilet roll so they gave us tissue paper. No gel in the shower (the dispenser was empty), so we asked for replacement and they kindly repla...

Booked a Large Studio Unit but instead got a free upgrade to a One Bedroom Apartment due to room availability. We stayed for 3 nights and staff didnt disappoint us, daily house keeping. Private spa pool was wonderful to which me and my gf use to relax. We also got a box of chocolates upon check out from the owner. Thank you very much and we enjoyed our stay!

receptionist was awesome! great for a cheap stay. Had a room with hot tub, place was quite run down and old could do with a revamp. If your not too fussy would be ok as has everything you need, sky, wifi etc but everything is outdated. Hot tub was good one filled up & a good size too..& good location aswell i found, for a decent n cheap place to sleep its good aslong as ...

Had a superb stay at city suites! As I'd come from Australia and didn't know the area, the staff were unbelievably helpful in every way, they made the stay alot easier! The hotel was only a 5 min walk from the bay and fantastic restaurants and nightlife. The room we had was huge! Massive bathroom! And my brother and I both had a king size bed each! The accommodation is...

The staff here are super friendly. There are lots of nice touches, such as free rice and pasta that you can use for your cooking in addition to free tea and coffee. There's a nice vibe in this hostel! Our room was a double room and it was comfortable and clean with plenty of room. It was nice to have free WiFi considering a lot of places unnecessarily charge! We had a private double, NOT ensuite. Our room was on second floor but there is a ramp, no stairs. We travel with small carry-ons. It was not a problem for us to roll these to our room. One backpacker complained that too many keys are too difficult for a backpacker to handle. Really? This person really gives bad names to all backpackers. This hostel gives you three key...

The best thing about this hostel is the staff. They were so nice and helpful and willing to answer any questions you had about what to do while you are in the area regardless of your budget. Most of the staff were travelers as well so they understand what you are looking for. They have parking in the back which is great if you have a rental car for NZ. The room I was s...

We find a really good deal on Agoda for the property and decided to book. We were a bit skeptical as it sounded a bit to good to be true, so we didn't have high expectations. We booked a backpacker cabin which is a small cabin with two bunk bed. We were check in at the reception by a really helpful girl that showed us all the facilities and our room. She figured out we...

Location was great! right next to the lake, food store. it also had free parking right outside and we never struggled to find a park. there were two kitchens and dining rooms so dinner was easy. There was also a jacuzzi however it was winter so we didn't really use it. pool tables, books, movies were available so it was a really fun stay with plenty to do. The staf...

Kind staff and owners. Hostel is basically a guy's house with a bunch of small container units he built in the backyard and turned into rooms. Campers with tents use the area too. Clean rooms, kitchen, and bathrooms. If you are gonna do a dolphin cruise book it through them to save some money.
Surroundings are so quiet, beautiful and refreshing. The room and kitchen are clean. Queen bed is comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped. Staff are lovely and helpful. 2 single beds' string need some oil as it created noise. No mobile phone network coverage at all.

Super clean, spacious shared areas, comfortable bedding, overall great condition and good value for a property of this size, type and price point. Rooms had the basic essentials like a luggage rack, plenty of power points, hooks and individually controlled heating, and provided a peaceful nights sleep. Shared bathrooms are big, shower hot water pressure is strong, and...

They were overbooked . They had to run around looking for a room as they were overbooked by the booking agent and that was after phoning them two days prior to confirm the booking. The room was very dirty. They had to vacuum the room before we could go in. We had to ask for more sheets as the bedding was too dirty. Thanks to the unfriendly guy who helped us.we wer...

Pros: Clean, friendly, basic room, nice pool. Cons: a long way from town. I was a bit surprised at the cost especially mid winter when it was nearly empty, paid $144 per night and can get a 4-5 star good hotel in town for around $90 per night, I should have shopped around! Thats my only gripe, otherwise a nice place.

Had a lovely stay here and even received a free upgrade which was an unexpected surprise! The weather was a little unforgiving that weekend but the pleasant room and fantastic staff made up for it. Close to public transport (stop is in front of the motel) and supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, fast food outlets, shopping, etc. are all across the road. Will book a room h...

I've been going to Omokoroa for years, I always look forward to my stay there. Facilities and cabins are extreamly clean, and grounds spotless. Perfect size holiday park. Love soaking in the mineral hot pools and biking or walking the board walk at the rear of the camp.

My stay at Devonwood was lovely! It was an awesome surprise to come back after I had been out all day and find fresh towels and my bed made - I wasn't expecting that as I am used to leaving a sign on the door for cleaning if needed. The bathroom could do with more ventilation as it can get quite steamy in there and there is no power outlet for a straightener or curler....

We stayed in a studio suite. The rooms were huge and clean. It’s a standard room though so nothing fancy. I liked that the bathrooms were nice clean though! They usually are anyway but not to what I’m expecting. Even the shower tray was polished so I appreciate that as we are a little icky about shower trays :) The receptionist was really patient with me when I was ar...

Awesome place to stay if you're in a group or with a family of 4. The villas are inside another resort so it was confusing at first, but the setting of he villas is charming. It is by the lake with each of the villa balcony facing the man made canal. You can borrow Sheree's kayak to play around the lake. Plenty of facilities inside the villa: washing/drying machine, ...

toni and glen were very friendly and helpful, we could only stay two nights and asked their advice on what to see etc. when we had chosen the activities toni booked the tours for us. the rooms and bedding were spotless. the spa bath, set in our own private courtyard was great, filling it from the tap meant the temperature was ones own choice, a great way to relax af...

We were a group of 4, initially we booked the spa room, coz the picture showed us there will be 2 bedrooms. When we checked in, the spa room turned out only has 1 bedroom with 3 beds, and another bed at level 1 living room. We spoke to the receptionist if we can change to 2 bedrooms suite, and glad that receptionist accomodated our request. Stayed for 1 night only, d...

I found the hotel very good as the owners run the hotel well, you tell it was privately owned as they went above and beyond. They even offered transport into the city if you wanted to go out for a drink. The bathroom had a nice big spa in it which was good to relax in after a day of walking around.

The location is convenient enough (super market, burger king etc just a coner away), the stuffs are very friendly and sweet! 中文也可以通喔! The room is so cozy, that you can feel the thoughtfulness of the owner (if you’re someone who cares about the quality of sleep, just fyi that the bed is very comfortable). Stayed for 4 days then headed to Auckland, then just miss the qui...

This was the best of the motels we stayed. The owners and staff served us with their hearts and made the stay a comfortable one. They were free with their advice. Friendly and helful (they told us in advance that there would be a shortage of staff on Christmas as it was the holidays and this assisted our planning).

The best thing about this hostel is the staff. They were so nice and helpful and willing to answer any questions you had about what to do while you are in the area regardless of your budget. the motel was clean and newly renovated which was a plus but the room was a bit small. the man at reception was very helpful and friendly with tips on things to do in rotorua and surrounds. as other people have probably mentioned, there were roadworks at the front of the motel when we visited but we weren't bothered by them. the hotel is very close to some of the free ...

ive seen a few people ( sad) who complained about the wifi , if thats your biggest issues on holiday, and you give a negative review on this splendid hotel you really need to get a life, or maybe get a data plan so that it does not make your facebook life look sad. anyway, cracking hotel , great staff on reception who was very nice to our children and was happy to c...

being a frequent traveller with my family, we have stayed in plenty of motels across OZ & NZ. Aquarius motel at Tauranga was the best we had stayed at. Paula greeted us upon our reach, check in was instant. I took the Large studio room and it was huge and clean. bed was super comfy, better than couple of 5 star hotels I have stayed. value for money!...

The staff member that greeted us was absolutely lovely ,the apartment was as advertised the bed was so comfortable ther was also a heat pump and the tv had all the sky channels , however Agoda should have also advertised that ther would be lots of demolition work going on directly under your balcony and that your outlook would be a crater the size of the hotel you are...

We spent 3 nights at Chris and Dave’s place and could not have been more pleased. We stayed at the Mokoia Room, and the view is to die for. It has floor to ceiling windows that overlook the beautiful Lake Rotorua. The room also opens to a lovely patio where you can just sit, relax, and enjoy the beautiful view. Chris and Dave are the most gracious hosts that we have ev...

We travelled in 4: 2 adults and 2 children under 13 years old. We took Superior 1-bedroom apartment for 3 nights. And we can say that this place was totally awesome. The room was spacious and clean. Ron and Lesley have been absolutely wonderful, they definitely made us very warm upon our arrival. it exceptional., staff were very friendly, very helpful and their customer service was second to none. It’s a very cozy place and for a family with young children it catered for our every need. We had to cancel 2 nights of the 3 nights that we booked earlier, due to group arrangement. We had no trouble at all in the changes. We had such a wonderful stay here. The place is luxurious and deserves five stars in all categories. However, more importantly, Kay is such a gracious hostess. Her simple but elegant cooking won our hearts. And not to forget Freddie, we felt sad leaving him and I'm sure he was sad as well, seeing us saying goodbye. If you want to have a truly romantic getaway in a luxu...

This is what I always thought a B & B should be. This retired couple doesn't need the income, they simply love to meet people and socialize if the client wants. If you've been to Tuscany, you would love the whole neighbourhood, every house is brick and terra cotta, various palms and flowers, all manicured. I couldn't believe the facilities, we arrived on a hot muggy af...

The hosts, Leigh and mike are delightful, this is our second visit from Australia in two months we loved it so much, the rooms are simply beautiful, the view is spectacular, the food is delicious, we are looking forward to returning, definitely the best value for money, M.Bass Australia
