Location is perfect for using as a base for exploring area as well as for walking to local shops and restaurants. As MJ states it is an old business but she makes up for this in her welcome and support, our room had balcony, armchairs so a relaxing place to be too.

This place is more suited for camper van and low budget stay. We were slightly late with the booking of accommodation noting that it was a peak period too, and the last best choice was Getaway Te Anau. We didn't have any expectations apart from knowing we booked for a twin bed cabin. Upon arriving, we were surprised at how packed and crowded the place was. We went for ...

Stayed in the Standard Studio room for 2 nights. Amenities in the room was good. The beautiful Te Anau lake is just right across the road. Stone throw away, there are plenty of shops and 2 supermarkets. The only con was our room had the funny smell of detergent. Tried opening the windows and door to clear the air but ain't really working. I get used to it on the seco...

it seems rude to call this place a 'motel' as it is so much better than that. the unit was spotlessly clean with lots of nice little touches everywhere. the receptionist was very welcoming and personable and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. i would stay here again and recommend this place if looking at te anau. we arrived from queenstown by car, spent the night a...

It is a very good choice for staying here in Te Anau. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. It was easy to get everywhere in Te Anau from this hostel. We booked this as a family of 2 sisters and kids- we were staying only for one night after our cruise from Milford sound. The hotel was spotlessly clean, rooms were fresh ans very large and very comfortable for a family. Hotel very good when we needed cold milk for my son on the morning of Christmas Day. Cannot daily anything . Te Anau was a beautiful place

Stayed only one night. Owner is a very nice guy, talked with him at length about the area. Rooms are dated, but kept in nice shape. Bathroom was redone in our room, though, and was nice. You can walk across the town green to the "downtown" area. In general a nice, small motel typical of NZ, but on the older side, which is reflected in the price. Just about the be...

It was our best stay in NZ in all 22 days of our travel. The couple who owned the place was among the best innkeepers in NZ. We appreciated their hospitality and the fantastic breakfast every morning before starting our days of adventure. I hope Janice and Lindsey will continue to do well in the future endeavours and we wish them the best of luck. Do not forget ethel (...

The bed was comfortable and the room nice and warm. I was staying for work and my unit was very quiet and there was plenty of space. I travel to Invercargill for work every now and then and will definitely stay again. There's a Countdown Supermarket right across the road and that was handy (except you can't buy wine there :-( )

We booked a suite for 4 adults, and in the pictures clearly shown that there is a small kitchen complete with microwave. But we are given a room WITHOUT a kitchen, and to change to the one shown in picture, the receptionist required an additional NZD35. Otherwise, the room is quite ok. There is a common area with spacious kitchen and dining tables. WiFi is limited to 5...

Beautiful lodge with beautiful views of the golf course and lake. Luxmore Suite is very spacious with a great bathroom and shower. Quick drive into town and quick access to the Kepler. Dawn and Mark are incredibly gracious hosts! The breakfasts alone are worth the price of the room! We were in NZ 21 nights and our 3-night stay at Dock Bay was our favorite!

Staff were friendly and helpful. The apartment was clean, fresh and comfortable although it was obvious the hotel was old and had been refurbished. It is very well located in Invercargill with an easy walk to local restaurants and cafes. I wouldn't rate this as a 4 star hotel, perhaps 3.5 stars would be more like it. Ample free internet access, cheap easy secure pa...

My mother and I stay at Arran Motel for the Milford Sound trip. There are so many good things to say about this Motel. 1) Russell the owner is very welcoming, friendly and kind. 2) Russell is very generous. I booked for a double room that only cost me $186.41 for 2 nights. Upon check-in, He upgraded my room to one bedroom unit without asking for additional payment...

The room has the most well equipped kitchenette among all the motels I've stayed in. The male staff who received us was most helpful and friendly. However the room is in serious need for a modern facelift and refurnishing. The toilet is tucked away in an enclosed space next to the bath area and it looks really odd and out of place. Bathroom heater is old and noisy when...

My wife and I really enjoyed our time at the Shakespeare B&B. Liz and Nathan were our host and they really made you feel welcomed!! Our room was spotless and we enjoyed relaxing out in the conservatory. They offered a great breakfast each morning. We would highly recommend staying at this B&B.

Staying at the lovely Blue Thistle Cottages really centered our amazing visit to Te Anau. We were so awed by Lake Te Anau and exploring the Glowworm Caves and the drive to Milford and the Milford Cruise and being able to return in the afternoons and evenings to Blue Thistle Cottage allowed us to soak in all that was amazing about that area. The Cottages are well appoin...

A very good experience from the time we step into the reception. Greeted by the manager - Andy and was a superb experience of taking care of our needs to show us the accomodation & to ensure we have our trip to Milford Sound covered the next day . Even a gentle reminder late evening that I had forgotten to book my cruise . Andy gave every detail required from time of...

We booked 2 twin sharing rooms. The room was very clean and bed was comfortable. Guests are required to remove their pillow case, bed flat sheet and blanket sheet when check out. This ensure that new ones are replaced For the next guest. There is a very big shared kitchen facilities for the guests to use. It would be great if the hostel provides oil, salt and pepper...

We were upgraded to a deluxe double and the staff was very helpful. The room was very clean and spacious with cooking facilities. We stayed in two-bedroom unit for one night. In my three-week holidays in New Zealand, this was definitely one of the best motel which we had stayed. The unit was very spacious and clean, beyond my expectation of a typical motel standard. Very friendly service from the staff. Impressive for the price which we paid. Definitely value for money.

We had a pleasant stay here. WiFi would not work in detached room- not a real concern. Good accommodation which suited our needs very well. We are "budget travellers" and do not look for 4 or 5 star places- but this would not be 4 star. We did our own cooking. We did not need dining facilities. Rating of 3 above is really N/A.(which is an option often missing in surv...

Bckpacker's place/hostel. Staff is friendly, however you need to arrive before 6PM and you want to find anyone at check-in, but for us it was not a problem - our name was written on a blackboard and key was in keychain. Towels are $3 per person per day. So it is advised to bring your own. There are two bathrooms and one toilet in the upper floor and at one of them lig...

The owner of the property is very friendly and helpful during our stay. She even gave us the opportunity to play with the animals in her farm and we had a great time feeding them and pet them. The room is clean, and we were given extra blanket to cope with the cold weather during our stay.

I would highly recommend this hotel . One piece of advice I’d give you if you plan to go to Milford Sound (you’d be crazy not to ) my advice is stop at this hotel , drive up or get a Tour to Milford sound and return to this hotel . This town has far more activity and its two hours drive up , more if you stop to admire the landscape and two back to the Sound. As a sol...
Once I had worked out where to check in (over a small road and then over a main road - it wasn’t just me - I found other confused looking people later on who asked me where to go) I really liked this place! Charming, classic and clean accommodation. Really comfy bed and everything I needed thank you. The hotel is set just back off the main road too which is good for no...

This was a decent size room, with sliding glass doors so there was a lot of light. There was a small fridge ad an electric kettle in the room, but there was also a large kitchen available to guests as well as a BBQ, so you could cook a large meal if you wanted to. The community kitchen had a large fridge/freezer, stoves, 2 microwaves, dishes, recycling bins, etc. Ro...

This motel has clean, spacious rooms with a lovely owner and staff. I booked my room on the wrong date, but they still honored my reservation. They offered helpful information on Milford Sound and the weather there. I would highly recommend to anyone passing through Te Anau for Milford Sound!

My ad (in his 80s) my sister and myself (in our early 50s) stayed the night here. We enjoyed our stay which was comfy and warm. The 2 bedroom suite is older style but clean and comfy. There is a lot of room and a very well appointed kitchen. The hsts were very friendly and knowledgeable about Invercargill and ensured we had a nice place to go to dinner and even gave ...

We loved our time at the Murrell Grand View House. Robert and Phillipa were wonderful hostesses on top of their holiday party and family holiday. If you go give yourself enough time to walk on the beach then fix a cup of tea, sit on the veranda and take in the stunning beauty there family has enjoyed for 100+ years. What a family legacy!!!

First of all we were late in arriving and it was pouring. The owner, Tina was kind enough to wait and let us park near the unit. The unit is unexpectedly spacious enough to sleep 5 adult easily. Absolutely the best place I have stayed - friendly and helpful hosts. So close to the beach and walks and reminded me of Cornwall in England - so quaint and amazing. Had those extra touches of choclates on arrival etc. The best room and bed.A++++++

On arrival from a long day driving and sightseeing we were welcomed with a smile, a cheese platter and a glass of wine. That is over and above what we expected or have experienced. The room is luxuriously furnished and decorated. Every need is thought about and provided for. There are shared facilities however they are straight opposite the room and are excellent. ve...

The whole cinema suites has a Fiordland temperate rainforest theme. Lovingly designed and built by the owner who hails from Fiordland. We have never seen a hotel room with that many power outlets. We stayed one night in a studio apartment. The building is old, particularly noticeable in the corridors with squeeky floors. The studio apartment, although a bit dated, was spacious and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom was very spacious for a studio with a large shower, which for an unsteady person would benefit from a rail or something to hang onto. The room was ...

Te Anau Lodge is within very short walking distance to the town center. Mark is exceptional, professional, and has good sense of humor! Where do I start? Well I booked this hotel by seeing a few pictures on internet and what a beautiful place! Staying at Salt + Earth and getting to interact with its hosts Nathan and Debbie was the highlight of our New Zealand trip.
