Guests had a pleasant stay at this ryokan with friendly and helpful staff who created a welcoming atmosphere. The location near local restaurants, supermarket, and convenient stores was highly praised. The ryokan's elegant design provided spacious rooms with a garden and a zen garden for relaxation. Rooms were well-equipped with private hot baths and complimentary bath salts. The quiet residential neighborhood provided a peaceful environment for a restful stay.

A couple of guests mentioned inadequate heating in the room during cold weather.

    “4nights stay”

We are very impressed with the attentive customer care and service that the hotel management provides. We had some issue with our luggage delivery and we were outside when this happened. The staff contacted us through email and provide prompt help and replies to help us resolve the issue. The room was clean and the facilities were all good and well maintained. The hotel is situated further out the city but the bus stop was only a 4 mins walk away. It's located in a quiet neighborhood and it felt safe to walk from the bus stop to the hotel at night. The only thing that could have been better was that more hanging options should be provided. Since we were travelling in a group, the cupboard got filled very quickly and there were not enough places for us to hang our clothes. Would have been nice if there was a hanging rack in the room that we could hang stuff other that inside the cupboard. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and we would definitely be back again if we had a chance to travel to Kyoto again.

    “Peaceful authentic stay”

The rooms are traditional, you sleep on futons on the floor but they were surprisingly comfortable! The chairs for the table are also low. There is an elevator. There is a microwave in the lobby you can use. The room has a minifridge and kettle and coffee/tea making station. There is a small travelers tax you need to pay when you check in. The bathroom is made up of a toilet room, a shower/bath room and a section with sink. Each can be closed for privacy. There is also cabinet space, and an alcove where we put our bags. At the entry there is place for shoes. Around the corner there is a 24-hour supermarket as also a 100-yen store. There is coin laundry a few minutes away. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The keys were manual. We walked to Philosopher's Path and if you walk in that area there is a nice view of the city and the mountains. Very nice quiet location and nice zen garden, needed to take a bus or sometimes 2 to get to "main sites", and we took a taxi to/from the train stations but it was all manageable. Noticed the room was a little dusty but it might just have been the air...

“So impressed by this small hotel”

Very clean, traditional, enough space. Pleasant. We stayed at third floor garden view room for one night. Was so impressed by the layout and thought behind the rooms. Dustbins were placed strategically - one beside the TV (big one) and one just at the bathroom counter top. Amenities were top notch for 3 star - they had face soap, oil cleanser, lotion, facial essence, hair tonic, shaving lotion, and two types of hair dryer. Also lots of the free amenities. Also drip coffee , tea cups and coffee cups with spoons and a small fridge. The toilet bowl has the full bidet Toto function array with the butt dryer. The futons were very comfortable, had my best sleep here. The only drawback is the towels looks a bit old and fraying, and no Netflix on tv? But that is so minor. Love love love this hotel.

“Best Ryokan we’ve stayed in!!! Two sisters on Thanksgiving Break ”

Ryokan Kanade is hands down the best ryokan experience my sister and I had in Japan! We were in Kyoto in November for Thanksgiving Break, and I remember reserving this accommodation months in advance because of the really fair price and proximity to all the sites and attractions we wanted to see. The location site of the ryokan itself was in a quiet neighborhood - a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the main road which we liked. (For those who would like to do some laundry while you’re there, there is coin laundry 5 minutes away from the ryokan. Very helpful since we had been bouncing around Japan for a couple of days prior and needed some clean clothes. ) The ryokan hotel itself is a mix of traditional and modern Japanese design. We reserved the Japanese style room which was wonderful and spacious. Loved the bathtub and plentiful amenities and freebies! The staff were so helpful and honestly were lifesavers! If they see this review, I genuinely want to communicate our appreciation. We had sent our luggages ahead from our previous hotel in Hakone and there were some miscommunication about delivery. Long story short - we did not know where our luggage was for some time but the staff at the front desk went out of his way to call and find out what happened to our luggage. This man went above and beyond customer service and helped us find our luggage, and offered to receive it despite the complications. Really appreciate his perseverance and assistance despite the language barrier! Another brilliant example of great staff service from Ryokan Kanade is their breakfast! Not only were their food delicious but you can tell the chefs put a lot of thought, heart, and detail in preparing the meal! They were so kind and attentive to us. You can tell they even take the time to recognize their guests because one of the staff conversed with me and complimented that I had come in the night previous wearing a rented kimono. I was overjoyed by their heart and spirit. Ryokan Kanade made my sister’s and I’s trip to Japan unforgettable. I will definitely be keeping this hotel in my watchlist and coming back next time I visit. Please do give this ryokan a try and be kind to the staff!

    “Lovely Ryokan”

Among 5 hotels I stayed during my trip, this Ryokan was the best. Beautiful room with nice view to the garden. My fiancée had some stomach issues and the room/bath were squeakily cleaned once we returned. The toilet bidet has dryer which I really love. Futon was nice and I slept like a baby. 100% would book again if I have a chance.
