Beautiful resort with very kind staff. We stayed here for the first week of our holiday, and were looking for a quiet surrounding close to Chiang Mai. The villa we stayed in (nr 14) was spacious, but is a bit outdated and needs renovation to make it worth the money (106 euro per night).

Nursing home ”
We were shocked to discover that his facility is now an older folks home. At breakfast it was very sad to see so many old lonely people eating breakfast alone. Also the hotel was obviously nice in its day but it’s very dated snd the rooms were not clean. We paid for two nights but only stayed one because of the condition of the room. We were the only guests besides the older people who lived there. Not a place for vacation for a family.

This is a care facility for elderly most with dementia. We were the only tourist there. We had meals with the patients ,watching nurses and aids care for there needs. They didn"t know what happy hour was. We stayed 2 nights and we were out of there, a refund would be in order. DO NOT Recommend this place to anyone who is wanting a fun holiday vacation.

We nearly didn't book the resort because amongst the good reviews were some 'average' ones but we were really pleased that we ignored them because the resort was great for us.We were upgraded to a nice jacuzzi room and what a jacuzzi bath it was- big enough for more than 2 people, yes it took 15 minutes to fill because it was so big, but it was really worth it.The resort has large grounds filled with trees and plants and a large lake, it is nice to walk around especially in the cool morning or in the evening.The room was large bright and pleasantly decorated although in a simple Thai style. If your desire is floor to ceiling teak these rooms are not that.We used both the resort limousine to go to the city and a local taxi (they were surprisingly the same price).There is a wealth of activities in the area, so much that we will be back to stay longer next time.We didn't use the fitness room but it looked very good for this type of resort.The restaurant food was reasonably priced for a 4 star resort and presented beautifully. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very enjoyable.Our highlight of the stay was the spa treatment, it is so nice to be pampered.We both really recommend this resort, I read a review that called it a 'hidden gem' and I concur.It is not suitable if you want a very hectic night-life but if you want a quiet beautiful environment and friendly service at a reasonable cost both of us recommend Away Suansawan.

Great weekend retreat”
Our stay at Away Suansawan was the ideal weekend retreat from city life in Chiang Mai, where we live. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, and both pool and grounds were well maintained. Service was also wonderful - no request was too much for the friendly staff, and when we came late to breakfast one morning, they had neatly packaged up a section of the buffet for us, and then proceeded to cook us omelettes of our choice. Unfortunately, we found the food quite disappointing, but apart from that, we had a lovely stay, and would have no hesitation in returning for another relaxing retreat.

Beautiful resort hotel away from it all”
my family (2 adults and 2 kids--16 yrs and 12 yrs) booked the family vacation suite. it was the upper floor of a villa, and had 2 separate bedrooms plus a jacuzzi inside the suite. overall, the suite was clean and quite new, and very comfortable. the resort in june 2012 is still pretty much as is depicted in the marketing brochure, gorgeous and spacious. only 70+ rooms in a huge land area, it takes almost 10 mins to walk from some of the villas to the reception/restaurant. the service is very good, and all the staff speak enough english. there are 5 bicycles for borrowing (free -- first come first served), but other than cycling out to the main road to the grocery store or 7-11, it doesn't serve much purpose. the only drawback of the away is that it is not "near" anything, despite being smack in the middle of mae sa valley, where there are 101 things to do, from x-sports to tiger zoo to elephant camp to snake farm and at least 20 waterfalls etc. if you want to visit these attractions, you either need to buy a tour, or pay the hotel's taxi, or do what we did...rent a car. for 4 persons, the car made the most sense. dining and breakfast were very good at the away. we were told that since there were very few guests on the days that we were present, they didn't have buffet breakfast. instead, the kitchen would cook whatever we wanted, and as much as we wanted. that's a deal to us!!! we also had dinner here, and there was a good mix of thai and western dishes, which were not too expensive (we saw the prices at the nearby four seasons -- now that's expensive!!!). the swimming pools are ok, and you could also go boating, if you just wanted to relax within the resort. be warned that the resort is very far away from the centre of chiang mai. it takes about 30-45mins to get to the old city by taxi, or 1 hour from the airport. we were quoted around 600 baht for a one-way taxi ride from the airport. (but we didn't need this, as we had a car rental). over

This resort is simply beautiful; set in a stunning location with views of the mountains it boasts more than 1000 trees,a lake, gardens and fishponds.There is a wide variety of room types, nearly all villas each with their own design.Mine was well equipped and designed in a modern Thai style. Everything is clean and tidy with a host of staff looking after the resort, there seems an attention to detail which is not often seen in Thailand. The service seemed naturally friendly, not over-bearing like some hotels.The resort has recently started running tours to local attractions including an evening tour to the Chiang Mai Bazaar.I had a massage in one of the best looking spa's I have ever experienced.Next time I will come with my wife and enjoy a mineral bath in the huge circular Jacuzzi tub that they showed me. I enjoyed the free internet and Wi-Fi (can other hotels take note?)I didn't have time to use the 2 swimming pools nor the fitness and sauna, maybe next time because there will certainly be a next time. This place is fantastic, so beautiful, so relaxing.

A few days in rural Mae Rim outside Chiangmai”
Away Suansawan satisfied our intent for some peace and quiet in the hills outside Chiangmai. It also satisfied my desire for a villa with all the creature comforts, over a body of water. However guests who come here must accept that this is a rural sort of destination, and they would be severely handicapped if they did not have transportation to get around. As the hotel is a 45min drive from the airport, we were able to prearrange pick-up by the hotel van. The hotel very promptly responded to our e-mailed request for pick-up from the airport, bless them, and our driver Khun Ton was extremely nice and accommodating. We were also lucky to have been introduced to Khun Boon by the hotel, who chauffeured us all over Mae Rim and beyond in his very clean, sparkling Toyota Fortuner, at a daily rate which we consider to be very, very reasonable. Khun Boon (tel: 0801216212) was also our de facto tour guide, and I consider our stay a great success due in no small part to Khun Boon. The villa and the grounds was great, although the Spa requires advanced booking. For those who want some quiet in a very isolated, green environment without any compromise to creature comforts, we do recommend this hotel. For those who come here without their own transportation, but still desire to explore Mae Rim's many attractions, we highly recommend Khun Boon.

Beautiful, tranquil setting”
Our stay at Away Suansawan was very peaceful and the resort in set is a beautiful spot overlooking the valley. Our suite was enjoyable and overlooking the lake. All facilities at the resort are good, the food was fine and the swimming pools pleasant. Our only negative was that we found it just a little too quiet for us as we like an atmosphere and to be surrounded by people. The resort was low occupancy whilst we were there and perhaps this was the reason. There is not doubt that the resort is ideal for adventuring Mae Rim and all the great attractions on offer. We encountered Elephants, Tigers, Lions, Snakes etc. Very enjoyable trip.

This resort is not inside Chiangmai city. If you are more into nightlife and tourist sightseeing, please do not book this hotel because its location is far away from everything. However, if you are more into peace of mind and isolated resort, it is definetely a choice for you. Away Suansawan has very high quality in both room equipments and resort maintainance which is good for long stay.

The Best of places seen- Simply Fabulous exp”
As said above , I am short of words for this Great property and Great people ! This , definitely is one of the Best places I have come across and will remember this holiday for long time. We had timed our trip to Chiang Mai at this place so that my Wife's Birthay could be celebrated. I think this was the right decision. Location itself is very quiet , way out of the city (not good for those who look for shopping areas or night life) but close enough for activities like Tiger, Croc, Elephant Parks and Zip Line Trip. Standard facilities like Pool, Gym, Library. Wi-Fi, Swimming Pool etc are there. Rooms are very well appointed. and with lots of imagination going into it. One word about Staff- they are terrific ! Ever smiling ever helpful One wonders what kept them motivated when there were just 2 or 3 cottages occupied, we were there during off Season time perhaps worst weather wise. If you are visiting Chiang Mai , make sure you book here !
