“Great location, basic no-frills accommodation, great value for money”
We weren’t sure what to expect after booking this. 2 nights for less than ***, but had an open mind and set expectations accordingly. We were pleasantly surprised and the stay was satisfactory. Check-in is at ***, and we arrived early at about ***at the express bus terminal about a 5 minute walk away. We were hoping for an early check-in but didn’t expect it. No one was at the front desk when we arrived, and translated the sign which said they were away from the desk preparing rooms, and to call a number. We didn’t do this since likely the room wasn’t ready, and translated another sign indicating luggage went along the wall and saw another traveller’s backpack there. If we weren’t in South Korea, we would have been very hesitant to leave our luggage in an unoccupied room, accessible by anyone from the street. But understanding there is CCTV everywhere, and theft generally isn’t a thing there (why would you take someone else’s belongings!), we left our luggage and went to the central part of the city exploring the market. Upon return at about ***, there was a lady at the front desk, who asked for our name, gave us an access card, some towels, and then called someone. She then put this person on speaker to talk to us, who explained in English, asking if it was ok if she could come to the room with us to inspect it. Sure, all good. She escorted us to the room, the hallway is a bit industrial looking, with gas or electrical meters outside of each unit. A bit strange, but apparently typical of resident buildings. She took a look at the room and it had no issues, and that was that. A decent sized room with a view of the sea through the other buildings. The room was clean but a bit dated and had a washing machine (but no detergent — we could have asked for some I’m sure, but didn’t have the need to wash our clothes). The washroom was clean-ish, had a bit of mold on the caulking, but generally ok. Not spotless like other places in South Korea, but clean. The room was quiet internally and externally. A few cafes and restaurants nearby and several convenience stores. The bus to Seoraksan National Park (7-1) was less than 200m away, and took about 30-40 minutes. For the price, it beat our expectations and was more than acceptable for a 2 night stay. A good home base for those going to the park. Set your expectations accordingly, you are staying at a residence vs a hotel so basically you have a place to stay not full service amenities.
