"hotels in kyoto are generally very expensive at all times, and this one is no different. however comparatively speaking, we thought this one was good value for money. the location was close to the gion area and the temple areas in higashiyama. facilities were good and the staff, as with most hotels in kyoto, were very friendly and professional."

"It's a brand new 5 star hotel (opened in September 2017). The location is just perfect for us as we had gotten the hotel to make most of our restaurants reservations, mostly around the GION district area. Quite a number of sightseeing places (famous Shrines & Temples) are within walking distance. It is especially good for us as we can walk off the calories after our lunch and before heading back to hotel to freshen up and then for dinner. The room size is pretty good and everything is so new and clean.. even the hotel smells good too! Room rate is considered reasonable given the high rates in most hotels in Kyoto. Overall,we are happy and satisfied with the stay at Celestine Kyoto Gion. The only problem (not big though) is you have to be rather patience with the staff if communicating in English with them. Anyway, will definitely stay at this hotel again. "

"As soon as we arrived we knew we were going to have a faboulous stay Recepcion hall is an open courtyard where a nice open fireplace warms you up as soon as you arrive There is also a great bar (with an other fireplace) My boyfriend is a smoker and as in Japan smoking areas are really hard to find he really enjoyed this one as it was in a great space. After our welcome drink (which was amazing!!) we got few information about the hotel and we have been really pleased discovering the Onsen was a free in house guest facility The Onsen was great we put on our super comfy kimono and enjoyed the hot water tub. Staff was great and really helpful, they even helped us book a great traditional dinner in a restaurant. We didn't really want to leave! I highly recommend this hotel in Kyoto "

"I loved this hotel -- the room is pretty small, but I don't even think that is worth complaining about since all hotels in Japan have small rooms. I stayed in three hotels while in Japan, and this one had the most spacious and comfortable bed out of them all. I had a king-sized bed in my room. The hotel itself is really cool -- I loved the decor and the very modern, relaxed vibe. The public onsen in the basement was really nice, especially during the winter and after a long day of walking. We paid for the breakfast which is definitely worth it. The food was great -- a mixture of traditional Japanese foods with some more typical "hotel" breakfast-type food. It was just really nice to wake up and be able to not worry about where to find breakfast in the morning. Location was also super ideal for a tourist. I LOVE the neighborhood ! The staff were super nice and polite -- always accomodating and helpful. If I stay in Kyoto again, I would definitely book the Kyoto Granbell Hotel! "

"I stayed in Kyoto Hotel Okura 3 nights. Location was excellent. Close to everything. Walking distance to best spots in Kyoto. Rooms sizes compare to other hotels in Japan or specially in Europe are really big. Rooms have everything you can possibly need during your stay. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed in many hotels around the world four and five stars and never seen service like in this hotel. I would rate this hotel full five stars. For the price that i booked this hotel through agoda it was just unbelievable. I will recommend this hotel to everyone. "

"The Monterey Hotel in Kyoto is a very special hotel. It is magnificently designed and the rooms are very large (compared to the other hotels I have been in in Japan) and immensly comfortable. The bathroom, which is important to me, is large and full of the latest gigs. Breakfast is included here,which makes it very comfortable - no need to look for a Starbucks! There is a nice variety of foods, Japanese and Western breakfast, with everything one really needs. The location is also very good, 5 minute walk from the nearest JR line. The staff is very friendly (as everywhere in Japan) and there is even a Cathedral where weddings take place.'The Library' is a lovely little restaurant which serves super afternoon tea at reasonable prices. The owner of the hotel has his collection of paintings up on the walls and these include a couple of original Degas and Monet! There is one man whose job is to guard these paintings 24 hrs a day!"

"Our stay was good but we went to Kyoto to see sights and do some shopping. Hotel Alfa was just too far away from the city center. When we decided to shorten our stay, the hotel staff was ever so kind to book us in another hotel in the city center. And they were so apologetic (which was not needed) that their hotel did not suit our purpose. Extraordinary work ethic which amazed me. "

"We’d spent 4 nights here as our base for Kyoto. Hotel is very clean, room is a good size, next to a 7-Eleven and the ladies at the front desk could speak English (at least could help us with directions). It’s 3-mins’ walk from Gojo subway station Exit 3 and approx 20 mins walk from Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo station. Two bonuses - (i) the hotel has a public bath (gender segregated - in fact the ladies’ has a number lock for security) and (ii) a ‘Handy’ mobile phone for our free use which is most helpful for more local info for sights, food to try and of course, navigation.
