Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto
Kyoto,Kyoto - View on map
"The four seasons always has a high standard and this one is no exception. There were a few things that were a little bit of a letdown. Before booking, we didn't realise that it was a non-smoking hotel. Even though we had an outdoor balcony, we couldn't smoke there, instead had to walk down through the lounge to the far end of the outside deck which kind of makes you feel unwanted in the hotel. Also, the breakfast buffet is not up to par for such an expensive and high-end hotel, most of the options were fruits and salads & even the bread selection was quite small. The meat selection was either pork or a few fish selections so if for religion reasons you don't eat pork such as myself & my husband, then you are out of luck. On the plus side, the staff was very helpful and always had a smile on their faces. We also reserved a private tour guide through them and our guide "Hiro" was AMAZING! Very knowledgeable and polite we had originally booked him for 3hrs and ended up extending for almost 5hrs. Since we were on our honeymoon the staff surprised us with a handwritten note, chocolates and little gifts with notes explaining the history of each one from the Japanese culture, which was very thoughtful. Overall I think if they provided smoking rooms or allowed guests in rooms with balconies to smoke on the balcony it would make the guests who smoke, more welcome. We will definitely be back to Kyoto. It was our favourite out of all the places we visited in Japan."

Hotel Resol Trinity Kyoto

"This was my first trip to Kyoto and the hotel was definitely the highlight. The lobby (and entire building) smelled amazing! The staff spoke excellent english and the check in/out was smooth. They also offer luggage storage after check out and called us a cab to the station. The hotel also has a private hot spring bath thats a must to try in Japan! All in all I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kyoto! Hint: the location is amazing!!!! 500m from a high rated tea ceremony experience company (read: Maikoya), 100m from a mini market, and is super close to 3 different subway stations!"

"hotels in kyoto are generally very expensive at all times, and this one is no different. however comparatively speaking, we thought this one was good value for money. the location was close to the gion area and the temple areas in higashiyama. facilities were good and the staff, as with most hotels in kyoto, were very friendly and professional."

THE THOUSAND KYOTO
Kyoto,Kyoto - View on map
"Very well located, Yes Hotel it is a little gem about a 5-10 minute walk from Kyoto station depending what side of the station you arrive at. The rooms are spacious by Japan standards, clean, offer really good in room espresso, coffee, tea, bottled water daily and has A/C . I know this sounds weird... I LOVED the bathroom. Technology at its finest. The hotel is modern and the service friendly. They were all very, very attentive. They have a wonderful concierge staff to help with dining reservations, local knowledge of the train system, sightseeing ...etc. The breakfast buffet has a good variety and if you don't want the buffet, you can order Ala Carte. This hotel delivers big on all fronts. We will definitely stay here again the next time we're in Kyoto!"

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei
Kawaramachi,Kyoto - View on map
"Although I have only stayed for 1 night, but Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei did really impress me by its friendly staff, the facilities at room and the beautiful Kyoto-style design. I arrived at hotel in the early morning, as soon as the staff at front door saw me carrying my luggage, she immediately helped me with my heavy luggage and escorted me to lobby. After leaving my luggage to them (standard check-in 15:00), I asked few questions like transportation to Fushimi-Inari Taisha, the front office agent was very patient and nice while answering my questions (communicating with English was fine here). And the front office staff were having their smiles all the time. And the facilities at room were really sweet, for example, they even provided oily-remover for guests who wore make-up! and the bath-robe was also a very thoughtful idea since they did have a public large bath for guests in house (and it is free!) there were also complimentary two green tea bags and coffee bags for guests. And the bed was too comfortable that you might want to cancel all the trip schedule in order to lie on the bed. And the unique and special design of the hotel was fascinating as well, you could feel the strong sense of "Kyoto". I would definitely come back to this perfect place next time when visiting Kyoto! Thank you for making my stay a really great memory! (And I would like to try their breakfast next time which was strongly recommended by one of their staff)! "

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto

"We visit Kyoto at least once per year in the past decade and have stayed at most of the better known modern hotels in the city. The overall quality of this hotel is the best to us. Wonderful architecture and design. A good Italian restaurant and very helpful staff. Location is a bit far away from the subway but next to a river and close to some interesting local shops (e.g. a couple of home furnishing and clothes shops by local designers just opposite to the hotel main entrance). Pricey though."

Hotel Hokke Club Kyoto
Kyoto,Kyoto - View on map
"Pros: Superb location, I came out from Kyoto metro station towards Kyoto tower direction, straightaway saw it on the left hand side of Kyoto tower. Very clean and nicely decorated with quality amenities hotel room. I stayed in the single non smoking room but the room was provided with a queen size bed that can fit two adults (Of course I don’t mean oversized adults). It’s spacious enough to have a small single sofa, small round table and a stool inside the room. Definitely more spacious than most Kyoto hotel room. Nearby there’re numerous nice food stalls or restaurants. Transport wise is definitely a big plus as there are many buses going to tourist attractions. Kyoto metro station is right in front of the hotel. Hotel lobby is at level 2. Level 1 has a nice cafe provided good coffee. Didn’t have chance to eat the breakfast but should be good since the coffee smells good. I will definitely come back again if I come to Kyoto! Cons: no. "

"This is the first Kyoto hotel I stayed in Japan for six days. Hotel staff is from front desk down to kitchen are extremely helpful and polite, I am truly impressed by the japanese people, from their attitude to the ways things are being done. Hotel room is always clean and tidy whenever I got back. Hotel location is conveniently located next to the shopping district. It is also within walking distance to multiple subway line. The hotel is definitely worth for Its values to money. As an experienced traveler, I would strongly recommend you not to miss this hotel. Almost everyone says Kyoto is a beautiful place to see, but I would like to add one thing to it, almost every Japanese’s face in Kyoto are filed with warm and heartily smiles. Love you, Kyoto!"
