Grateful this place had 24/7 AC”

We were staying at another hotel and wasn’t aware that Tonsai shuts off power during a certain time. Luckily Tonsai Bay resort had electrity at all times during our stay, we had to pay double what the other place was charging but it was well worth it to have electricity during the hottest hours of the day (the other place even had a pool but even that didn’t help). Be aware Tonsai Bay resort also shuts off power depending on the season so check with them before booking. The room was nice enough, there was quite a few bugs (mosquitoes, drain flies, flying ants, regular ants and fruit flies) hanging out in the room with us and we made sure all doors and windows were closed unless we were entering and exiting the room. I don’t think you can find a place that is bug free anyways but be prepared. The restaurant attached to the resort is the nicest one in the area and the staff were really nice. If I came back to Tonsai I would without a doubt book with Tonsai Bay resort again.

A couple days at Tonsai Bay Resort”

We spent a couple of days on Tonsai Bay Resort. After reading the reviews we were expecting a super shabby hotel, but the facilities and grounds are actually quite beautiful. the rooms are large enough, clean, beds are comfy and breakfast is plentiful. The staff are nice as well. The prices on the resort from the dinner menu, bar, little convenience store are triple the price, but that is expected . The trip getting to Tonsai is another story. We knew what to expect, but it is quite the mission, especially in the evening. You have to get to Ao Nang Pier, wait until they have at least 10 passengers (150 THB each in the evening), then trek about 100m out in the ocean and hop into a long tail boat. Make sure you have sturdy sandals or go bare feet for this part. If you have rolling luggage you'll have to carry it over your head as you'll be treading in water well above the knees. From there, the boat ride is about 10-12 minutes stopping at Tonsai about 80m out and low tide.

Tonsai Bay Resort is a niche hotel but worth it!!!”

Tonsai Bay Resort has grown up in the past few years. We have been staying here for many years now, and this year was also very good. There are some weird things now though. There is a huge wall that blocks off the resort from the rest of Tonsai Bay. You will have to use a key card to go up to the hillside section and restaurants (Mama's Chicken Kitchen). There seems to be a divide between Tonsai Bay Resort, the new resort being developed, and the community that is Tonsai Bay. Of course in low season there is no electricity in the rooms between 9am and 5pm. We stayed in the deluxe bungalow as usual, and the staff is always warm and welcoming to us because we have stayed here for so many years. Breakfast is kind of limited if you don't eat meat or eggs.

        Good value and perfect location”

Location! Its the nicest place to stay in Tonsai, where the vibe is more laid back and people are more friendly and interesting than in over-touristy Railay. Staff was very friendly, and it felt like home when we had to leave after our 6-day stay.
Mosquitos can get in during the night, and the power goes off from 3-5pm. Compared to other places in Tonsai, where there is no power from 6am-6pm, this is really not that bad. Just go sit under the trees and sip a cold one by the beach.

We loved our stay in Tonsai Bay, and a big part of it was the Tonsai Bay Resort. Its a good deal, and the nicest accommodation in Tonsai Bay. We went to Railay to climb many days, but always came back to Tonsai. The welcoming people and relaxed atmosphere in Tonsai Bay make it feel more like a community than a resort. The restaurants near Tonsai Bay Resort are delicious and CHEAP, though watch out for typical SE Asian food poisoning. Would definitely recommend Tonsai Bay Resort to anyone looking for something nicer than a rickety bungalow in Tonsai Bay. If you want the Ritz, stay in Railay, but if you want an affordable, chill spot, where you can watch climbers as you eat your breakfast, Tonsai Bay Resort is a great choice.

secluded and quiet, ideal for climbers”

clean bungalows, next to best climbing cliffs, chilled non touristy vibe
        breakfast was abut repetitive

Tonsai Bay resort is a fantastic place to stay if you're climbing and / or want a quiet stay. Its located next to the best climbing cliffs on the right side of the beach nearer to railay west (much nicer swimming beach but lots of commercial resorts and touristy feel). Tonsai was quiet perhaps because we went in low season but overall a lovely place with all the things we needed. Electricity is on between 5pm - 9am in low season but this wasn't a problem as we spent all day outside. Its not a great beach for swimming but neighbouring railay west is much nicer, this is a steepish climb over some rocks and tree roots It took about 10 mins to climb / walk to railway west and about 25 mins walk onto pra nang beach, the most beautiful of the lot (its in a secluded cove). We ate at the cute restaurant next to Ton sai bay resort in the evenings, really tasty food v good value and friendly staff. Already planning the next trip back once I've gotten better at climbing - don't forget to sign up for at least a half day course its definitely worth it and lots of fun!

        Wonderful stay”

At first, we were quite worried as we couldn't find the resort at Railay west, after contacting the hotel manager, who was very helpful to give us direction, we finally reached Tonsai Bay after enduring a 15-minutes jungle trekking to cross the rock, hence only then we understand why this resort is mainly for rock climbers... (When the tide is low, can actually skip the jungle trekking by going along the beach) Because of its location, it is a hidden gem, not many crowd over there as if the place is totally private. The restaurant at Tonsai Bay (there is only one there) surprisingly provides delicious food. Staffs were very helpful, they even provide transportation to the end of the beach for us to take long tail boat to Ao Nang beach. Room has all that are needed. Overall this is a good place to stay is you can endure short duration of jungle trekking to reach there. We would definitely come back here!

Beautiful place to stay close by to Railay beach”

We spent two nights at Tonsai Bay Resort and were happy with everything (except for restaurant service, which is managed separately from resort). Spectacular view, very good vibes, as a result of type of crowd who comes there. Very laid back atmosphere. Many young climbers fancy this beach. About 10-15 min walk from Railay Beach. To get to Railay you need to take a path over a small hill in the forest or walk around it on stones during low tides (first half of the day). Tonsai Bay is a little quieter than Railay, so it is great to chill during the day, although it get pretty shallow during the low tide. The staff was very friendly and helpful at the resort. Room was clean and had no issues whatsoever. We enjoyed the stay very much.

        Exceeded Expectations”

Tonsai Bay Resort lives up to its' pictures. We were in a room in the main building and overlooked the palm grove which we saw monkeys frolicking in a few times. Room, building, and grounds were kept clean and tidy. Breakfast buffet was okay - not outstanding, but not bad either. There were a few shops within the resort area which made things convenient - beach bar, wash (laundry), extra water, massage, rock climbing, and at the top back of the resort you could get to the village which had other restaurants, shops, and a few food carts. Tonsai Beach area is laid back, quiet, and basic. If you are expecting high-end, Railay might be more your choice, but Tonsai was perfect for us and the resort exceeded our expectations.

Nice place on a quiet beach”

Quiet beach, isolated, rock climbing, close to other beaches

If you're looking for luxury accommodation on a powdery white sand beach, then Tonsai Beach in Krabi is NOT what you're looking for. However, if you are looking for a quiet beach that is close (walking distance if you're OK with a little bit of rock climbing, short boat ride otherwise) to those picturesque white sand beaches at a considerably lower price then this is the beach for you. Ton Sai Bay Resort is one of the nicer places at Tonsai Beach which is a little grittier than the other parts of the Railay area because the prices are lower. The beach is much less touristy, albeit not as nice. It is still a very pretty area and a similarly featured accommodation on Railay Beach will cost you 50% more to save you a 15 minute walk or 5 minute boat ride. Also, if you like to rock climb, you will be coming to this beach because all the best climbing shops are at Tonsai. About the room, we had a superior villa, mountain view. This meant we were in the very back of the resort which was preferable because the beach area can get noisy from the very loud long tail boats and the bars that play music at night. But we did have a 5 minute walk from our room to the restaurant/beach front. The restaurant provided free breakfast, which is all we ate there. It was a "western breakfast", which meant your selection of egg, meats, cold baked beans, and unlimited coffee/tea/toast/fruit. There are many very good restaurants literally next door, so there is no need to feel like you are isolated in this resort. Do be sure you have all your food cooked thoroughly as we got a bad case of food poisoning on our second to last day there. Our entire last day was spent in bed. Luckily we liked the place to book an extra night, otherwise we would have never made it to the airport!

Tonsai Bay is not for everyone...”

But it is absolutely PERFECT for us!!! This is our 4th stay at Tonsai Bay Resort. Although many changes have happened since our 1st stay. We rented the deluxe bungalow which has had a few upgrades. The bathroom is better and now wi-fi is available, It is worth mentioning that there is no electricity in the rooms between 9:30 and 5 pm. This did not effect us much at all and we have come to expect it. Breakfast was good, and the staff is very accommodating. Crossing over to Railay in the front or the back can be challenging, and the Mama's Chicken kitchen up the hill from Tonsai Bay Resort is AMAZING!!!

The best accomodation on the amazing Tonsai Beach”

Close to the beach, quiet, big and beautiful bungalows, great service

tonsai bay is a great place to relax and unwind, meet a lot of young people from all over the world, and see lots of hot guys! it is isolated from the rest of the land and can only be reached by boat. there are many hot rock climbers staying there. there are many bungalows in tonsai bay, most of which seem not to be listed on booking sites. however, tonsai bay resort definitely has the best bungalows on the beach. i would recommend tonsai bay mostly to young people who want to hang out with other young people, and i would recommend the resort to people who like to sleep well at night.

        Leonardo Di Caprio's "The Beach"!!”

        Privacy, tranquility, peace of mind!!

Me and my parents spent 2 nights at Tonsai Bay Resort, sharing a double villa. We had a fabulous time even though my parents (in their 50s) were probably the eldest people there! Everyone else was young, fit (mostly rock climbers and backpackers), and probably staying much longer than us :) It felt like a small community of people looking for tranquility and wilderness, and I got that awesome vibe described by DiCaprio's movie "The beach". There were monkeys crossing our path or jumping on the trees next to our balconies! We really felt like home and missed it once we got to the more chaotic islands (Phi Phi Don and Phuket). I'd really love to go back some day with my fiancé and stay a bit longer. So if you're looking for a remote, chill place to relax and catch your breath, Tonsai Bay is the place to be! Definitely recommend it!

        Best Hotel in Tonsai”

I am so glad we booked a spot at Tonsai Bay Resort rather than trying to save a few bucks and staying in the other bungalows in Tonsai! It is the only hotel that is right off the beach - all the other ones are about 100m inland - which makes it super easy to get to the climbing sectors on the beach, to the boat port, or to Railay since you can walk through the little jungle (or the beach when it's low tide). It's a pretty amazing value if you want to stay here and walk over to Railay each day since it's only a 10-15 minute walk and it's not $100+ per night. They have daily room cleaning which was great since they changed our sheets and towels, and they provided us with a water bottle per person each day. The breakfast buffet was included in our room, and it was good - it wasn't anything spectacular but it got the job done. As for the actual restaurant, it's pretty pricey (2-3 times surrounding restaurants) and not very tasty. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. They offered us beach towels when we went swimming and offered us a ride on the golf cart to the boat port when we checked out. The nicest part of this hotel was the fact that you didn't have to walk through the jungle to get to the other hotels and restaurants. There is a separate paved path through the resort that only guests can walk through (which could be you if you stayed)!

        Five Star Backpacking Accomodation”

        Clean and Comfortable

We came to Tonsai Bay not knowing that this resort catered mainly to the 'climbing crowd'. This turned out to be a bonus for all of us. The Villas are large and clean! Food at this resort consists of fresh local Thai fare. We found the accommodation to be excellent value for our money and lifestyle. (It must be mentioned that I live in 5 Star hotels as a result of my profession). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The beach is busy but a short kayak paddle away is a secret place....white sand and a great view of the islands. Determining 'First Class-Five Star' is mainly a personal matter in what one is willing to take. For me, this is a 5 Star resort as we wanted to 'get away'. No TV (although I guess it worked...we didn't use it) and sketchy 3G mobile service..(who cares, we were on a vacation). Access to this resort is via Longtail boat from Au Nang. There is no road connection into there. In short, this is a great, laid-back place to stay with friendly staff and great local food. There are some very 'colorful' people here! Enjoy!

air conditionor was only on from 5pm to 9am

My stay at Tonsai Bay Resort Krabi was by far the best of my stays in Thailand. If you are in the age group of 18-30, and not on a honey moon, this is the place for you. Especially if you enjoy good climbing, chill people, in a relaxed atmosphere with amazing food at reasonable prices. Bring your camera, you are sure to be surprised by any number of things in the jungle!

Beautiful place pity about the walls”

We were seeking a quiet space and in August the low season it is that. In hindsight we probably badly would stay in Railay Bay if there is a n XX time just because there is a 15-25minute walk either around rocks at low tide or in ver small rocky point as tide closes in. At hide time you either take long boat or walk 45mins over hill via jungle to get to Railay and other beaches including Pra Nang. A sad thing has been done by the Ton Sai Bay resort I. That it has built a wall between it and the small village out the back of it. Accessible by a card swipe. However a rich Italian purchased land next door to resort and has built another wall around land on all sides blocking out villages and those that stay at budget accommodation in village. The villages are really sad about this as it means less people stay in the village and their quick access out is restricted. It also blocks the sea breeze and their view of nature between them and sea. Sad.

        Not Too Shabby!”

The location was great, exactly where we wanted to be (near rock climbing). The staff maintained the paths, rooms and surrounding foliage very well and the food was good. Only downside really was not enough storage for clothes in the rooms if you’re there for a proper holiday like we were...we only had 1 shallow drawer and 4 fixed coat hangers in the wardrobe, so it meant primarily living out of a suitcase for nearly 2 weeks. If we went back to Tonsai, I would more than happily stay at Tonsai Bay Resort again (but I might just bring some cheap coat hangers next time)

        Tonsai is AMAZING!!!!”

        location, solitude, ambience

This was our 2nd trip to Tonsai Bay Resort. The staff is helpful and friendly, the room is very clean and quite large. The bathroom has trouble with hot water in the sink or shower, but that was fine... The restaurant is quite good with many delicious selections including breakfast. What was not acceptable at all was the public restrooms behind the restaurant. These were horrific to say the least. They are obviously public but I was forced to trek back to our bungalow rather than using this fiasco of an outhouse.

Great surroundings. Monkeys, monitor lizards and squirels all abound. Plenty of rock climbing routes.
        Mosquito netting and fly screens.

We arrived from Patong interested in a very different holiday. The Thai people were approachable and courteous and even allowed us some insight into their lives. My 6 1/2 year old daughter regularly played and baby sat Sallibenon, a 1 1/2 year old Thai girl. The people who ran the Ton Sai Bay Resort were friendly and Jam at the tourist / internet hut was very helpful. We even met one Australian girl and one American guy who had been there both 6 months and 3 months respectively. That's saying something about how relaxing the place is.

        lovely surroundings

we had booked for six nights but only stayed for two as we stayed during rainy season and there wasn't much to do at tonsai bay when it is raining every day. however, tonsai bay resort was lovely and the staff there are fantastic! it's also in a great area - surrounded by the rocks and trees and lots of wildlife - especially frogs and monkeys. i would suggest looking into the area further - we aren't interested in climbing and this is the main activity in tonsai bay - you can't really swim at the beach because it's quite rocky. had we researched better we would have stayed at railay for the beaches. tonsai bay does have other things to do though, and has a lot of good bars.
